The holy grail, the search for winter boots....

I would like some new winter boots, each year I have the same search to limited avail. Would like a pair in black and dark brown, knee length and need a wider than high street calf without having to buy the ones that you get made. Last year I had a pair from Next that worked, but always feel so down that I cannot find a pair to fit.

They need to work with skinny jeans plus tights and dresses and be smart enough to go into the office.

I really like these, but they would never fit I am sure.

Any ideas gratefully received.

My DUO boots are just about to enter their 5th year of almost continual winter use. Rehweled twice. they are the best investment I ever made if you are able to stretch to the cost in one hit. I've tried other brands but ...

mogontheblock · 28/09/2013 19:22

Oh wow never heard if DUO before, there are some real beauties on their site, already added some to my Christmas wish list :-)
What's their sizing like?

totallyaimless · 28/09/2013 19:23

Thank you travailtotravel, I will google, them, have never tried DUO but it would be lovely to have a pair that fit really nicely, will look now..

I had a beautiful pair of Gabor boots last year - my first boots. I have --huge- muscular calf muscles and these had a zip in the back to 'release' extra material. But they broke.

This year's 'wide leg' boots just aren't wide enough so I'll lurk here with intent. I need boots as I started to change my pre-baby wardrobe based on them.

They do cost a bit but do wear well too so are worth it. I've tried other brands for wide calf fit but found the quality disappointing. that said, Evans are OK if you keep looking. they've got a great pair of patent flat knee highs this season in black and oxblood red which I am currently in fantasising about.

sizing at duo is good. order usual foot sizes and find a measuring tape for the calf. they will be tight when you first get them but give without bagging.

my top tip is to sit down with your leg up horizontal then zip -- life so much easier Smile

I have just ordered these in the wide fitting from Clarks which are very similar to the ones you like. Am hoping they fit my calves but according to reviews they are slightly larger and I bought E fitting boots from Evans last year. I saw them in the shop window and they look very good quality.

20% off at the moment as well!

Was just going to suggest Orinoco Jazz as the style is so similar. I've got them in brown and they are like slippers, soooo comfy. In terms of wideness, mine are standard width and to give you an idea - having just measured them - they are 43.5 cm round the top. Presumably the wider fit will come up a few cm more spacious and there's plenty of elastic which goes a fair way down too. Hope you find what you want.

totallyaimless · 29/09/2013 13:15

Oh the Orinoco Jazz are lovely aren't they? Off to measure my calf...moo

Follyfoot and Liquid, I am off to order them now, at 42.5cms I should be all good. Many thanks!

I've just bought these from M&S. I have slightly wider calves, and these fit really well, and are very comfortable. I think they look great too!

I'm still amazed that shops have started doing the wider fit in boots. 10 years ago it was impossible to find any unless you went to Evans and I could not afford Duo.

I haven't thought to look anywhere else since until someone mentioned Clarks on here last week. I just hope my boots fit, will be gutted otherwise!
