My Hunter wellies are boooooring. Would it be daft to put stickers on them?

Blush Yes, I am a grown-up Blush.

I bought Hunter wellies last year and while I love the boots, the colour isn't what I expected. I ordered them off a discount website. I thought I'd ordered the metallic silver ones (the ones that look sort of like space boots :o) but when they arrived they were the high-gloss pewter kind. :(
For whatever reason I didn't get my arse in gear to return them in time, so now I'm stuck with them. I suppose I could sell them and order a colour I actually like but it seems like such a faff and I wouldn't be keen on losing money on the whole deal.

So, would it look stupid to put stickers on them? Supposing I could find some arty flowery ones? A friend had a sort of abstract peony sticker on her car recently, god knows what gave me the idea but I thought, "hmm, that could look good on my boring boots".

Daft, or not?

Are you arty - you could stencil on them?

working3jobs · 28/09/2013 20:57

go for it :)

MadameLeBean · 28/09/2013 20:58

Are you five?

If not, then yabu Smile

SingingSands · 28/09/2013 21:06

Sure why not, they're your wellies!

ArabellaBeaumaris · 28/09/2013 21:35

they are just wellies!

SundaySimmons · 28/09/2013 22:21

Use a senecio. Stickers will peel off and your wellie boots will look like the bedroom windows of a chav's house on a rough housing estate where they've stuck random stickers up and they've all half peeled off.

SundaySimmons · 28/09/2013 22:21

Senecio means stencil

Sell them on ebay, you'll get a good price for them.

Replace with flowery/pattern ones that you can pick up cheaply.

SundaySimmons · 29/09/2013 08:21

Personally I would sell them and get a pair you want. I found them uncomfortable and sold my pair on ebay for more than I paid for them!

Or google the stencils and have a go, but if you stuff up then you won't be able to sell or wear them.

FauxFox · 29/09/2013 08:48

get some funky welly socks that fold over the top instead.

snowlie · 29/09/2013 08:59

Sell them, mine were shit and leaked after a few months.

Phaedra11 · 29/09/2013 11:14

I love the insouciant, not giving a f**kness about putting stickers on your designer wellies. It has a kind of bohemian charm about it and I would feel much more warmly towards someone I saw who had done that than someone in unadorned Hunter wellies.

cardamomginger · 29/09/2013 11:41

Ebay them and get something you like. Stickers will get grubby and look shit. And stencils might not work either - the colour might leak or run when you apply and it could still peel off. Sounds like a bad idea.

IceCreamForCrow · 29/09/2013 11:48

I think customising them could be good if you do it well. Not with stickers though. That'd look a bit strange I think.

Glue sequins and diamanté beads on for a bling look. Grin

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 29/09/2013 12:10

Could you spray paint them with a colour that you like? I think Plasticote would work.
Sharpie pens work well on wellies. Little skulls on mine.

This wellie blingery is quite Out There. Grin

PinkPepper · 29/09/2013 15:45

I think stickers could work. But like eBay wall decals and get removable ones. There's loads of butterfly ones you could just peel on and off as you fancied

dexter73 · 29/09/2013 15:51

Wow ArtisanLentilWeaver, she has certainly pimped her wellies!!
How about sad teddy bear welly toppers?!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/09/2013 20:30

Oooh I love those teddy Wellie Toppers but I'd need to add Evil Slanted Eyebrows to enhance them Grin

kiwik · 30/09/2013 00:22

I'd have thought stickers would just peel off when they got wet - or certainly start to wear away with time.
I like the idea of customising with paint or whatever though.

I have generic green wellies, which are so tatty and splattered with mud that there's no point in pimping them up. I am v tempted to buy a new pair just so I can.
