Is she going to a service on a Saturday morning? Is it reform or orthodox? If orthodox she needs to wear a skirt. If it's just an evening do then a party dress is fine.

Snog · 26/09/2013 20:36

yes saturday morning service then 3 hour break then party...presuming not orthodox

Re gifts, often, the money is in multiples of eighteen - $18, $36, $72, etc. It is considered lucky, because the 10th and 8th letters in the Hebrew alphabet spell the word "Chai," which means "Life." Chai is also the source of the toast: "L'Chaim" which means "To Life".

Shoulders covered for the service, more modest type of prom dress.

KosherBacon · 28/09/2013 08:32

I'd say a skater dress or skirt with a cardigan sort of thing will look good.

I knew mumsnet would have this taped!
DD felt appropriately dressed in dress/cardigan/superga style plimsolls
Thanks

Did she have a nice time? Glad we were of service even if we were cutting it fine on time.

Snog · 29/09/2013 16:35

yes she enjoyed it! Thanks for asking!
She did say the service was quite long with a lot of standing up and singing that was hard to join in with. The star of the show looked wonderful.
