Good home dye for grey roots in mid-dark brown hair?

I have a few greys and have previously had them dyed over at the hairdresser.

There aren't loads and it's just the roots coming through at the moment so would like to try doing them at home.

I've dyed my hair at home before but have found every dye I've chosen to have a red undertone which is quite obvious in bright light.

Does anyone use one that gives a nice deep mid-dark brown colour? This is my natural hair colour and I really like it - but have problems matching to the pic on the packet!

TIA :)

I've recently used a nice and easy mid ash brown colour, and it's great... No red at all.
It's in the semi permanent ones.

Previously I've used a few john frieda mid browns and they're ok too, as well as permanent.

The Loreal semi in shade 5 is mid brown. I used it yesterday to cover a few greys as there doesn't seem to be any red tones.

Ask your hairdresser which shade he or she uses and buy from Capital Hair or Salon Services. You need a bottle of peroxide as well, mix equal parts in a small tub (I use the thing I get with my Persil liquid) Much better coverage and less waste if you are just doing the roots. I use Goldwell 5NN.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Might try and find the L'Oreal or Nice and Easy as I don't use the same hairdresser any more - also I'm a bit scared of mixing peroxide if I'm honest Grin

I don't like chemically dyes so I use Logona Brown Umber to cover my roots between highlights. There's a darker one you also might try.

Another good brand is Watercolours by Daniel Field.

I think this is the L'Oreal one I used yesterday.
