First Concert - Two Door Cinema club...what would you wear??

It's not my first concert. I'm a 48 year old gimmer whose seen her fair share of concerts from Simply Red and the Communards, at the tender age of 21 to the Arctic Monkeys a couple of years ago. But now...dd is 12 and is going to her first concert in London in December this year. I don't want to embarrass her but I'm 5ft 11, built like a brick outhouse and not terribly trendy. Please...can you advise me on what will look o.k. Do I wear a coat? I'm guessing that bootcut jeans and a waterfall cardigan are out of the question? Sartorial advice much needed and much appreciated. Thanks.

It really depends on a few things like who you're seeing and if you are seated or standing?

I always get really hot at concerts, especially if I'm likely to be dancing around so I'd wear skinny jeans, a vest top, a longer sleeve top / jacket that can be tied round my waist and a cross body bag. I always wear heals because I'm a short arse and it helps me see better but if it was a sitting gig I'd probably just wear a pair of converse.

It's sitting and it's to see Two Door Cinema Club at the O2. I think it'll be jeans but not skinnies. My calfs are huge :) Straight cut should do the job though. I did debate about a tunic, leggings and biker boots, but don't want to look like a mouton/lamb wannabe teen's mum.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought about a handbag, but I have a cross body Kipling bag that'll do the job.

Ooh, good band! Your DD has good taste! I would agree with skinny jeans, a longer length vest top and maybe a flowy kimono style jacket to add a bit of glamour? Try Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins or River Island for the latter. Or a simple vest top with a wicked statement necklace? Again, Top Shop is a good place to try.

Thank you frankie. I have been lucky that DD hasn't fallen for the X Factor type bands or I'd have had to divorce her (can you divorce your kids for bad taste in music?). She has given me the CDs and lyrics so I don't show her up on the night. She would have preferred Bastille, by a whisker, but we couldn't get to see them for love nor money. She is keen that her first concert should be one she can hold her head up about. Not sure where she got that from (o.k. it was me with my shameful Simply Red gig).

Ooh...hadn't thought of accessories. I have a friend who runs an online store that does some gorgeous statement necklaces. She had a blue and black one the other day that I thought would look gorgeous on a younger woman than I! I like the idea of a flowy kimono style jacket. Will check those out now and see how they go with a voluminous bust and chunky thighs. :)

I go to a lot of gigs and would probably wear something like:

jeggings

gorgeous dress, not too 'dressy'
(I know these are plus size, apols if that isn't you but just wanted to give you an idea! Not too dressed up is the thing, you want to look like you haven't made too much of an effort and are always insouciant and cool Grin
I have these in grey and they are so comfy

Ilovemyrabbits · 23/09/2013 20:42

Thanks BigBrassBand. That dress is stunning, but unfortunately they don't have my size. Bit gutted to be honest as that's just what I was looking for. I'm sure Dotty P's will have something similar though.

I might try Next for the skinny jeans. They tend to do a relaxed skinny fit, which suits my chunky thighs and calfs and they do a long leg, which is handy at my height.

DD says I can wear what I like as long as I don't try to copy her look. Oh yeah..I can see it now. 15 stones mum tries to emulate 5 stones wet through teen at concert! I suppose she means I can't rush out and buy myself rocket dog boots, skinny jeans and a checked shirt. Other than that, the fashion world is my oyster :)
