Please help me find a lovely "plus size" winter coat - they all seem to be polyester!!

So I'm scouring the interweb for a new winter coat. Must be size 18/20 and able to accommodate an ample cleavage (double breasted styles out then), and it's a tough job.

I found a couple of great ones on Zalando, but while Barclaycard (repeatedly) totally mucked me around with my credit card - for an online purchase, shock horror! - my size went out of stock. Grrrrrrrrr!

And all the other "wool" coats are largely polyester. I'm luck to find one 50% wool, 50% polyester. Desperate situation!

So I'm looking for a fab stylish warm winter coast, for large boobs, size 18/20. Budget up to £300. Preferably not 100% (or even 80%) polyester.

It just seems an impossible task. Am i expecting too much?

These are the ones I had decided on before they went out of stock (I was going to order both and return one subject to trying them on):

Grey one

brown one

Ironically that grey one is 89% polyester - but I liked the style enough to give it a go.

Boden do plenty of wool coats in that size under budget.

Twinklestein · 23/09/2013 13:24

Normally I would say Artigiano, but it looks like theirs are sold out already.

If you can get into an 18:

100% wool

80% wool

Not wool but gorgeous

Have you thought of MaxMara on ebay? Their sizes come up large, particularly their coats, I'd think you'd only need a 16.

Lands end do lovely coats/jackets, with a good range of sizes.

I've taken a look at Boden - just not loving their colours at all.

The Planet one is very like my dearly departed Calvin Klein cashmere/wool coat I'm now forced into replacing - so a big possibility.

It's not even that I'm looking for a 100% wool coat - just not something that is going to look nasty after a couple of months.

I'm out to get lunch now and will be passing East - I'll pop in.

Thanks

What about Jaeger?

Twinklestein · 23/09/2013 13:55

Do you ever try Madeleine? They go up to size 20.

Dark red

Powder

Faux fur

tethersend · 23/09/2013 14:03

50% wool

tethersend · 23/09/2013 14:11

nice but only 21%(!) wool

tethersend · 23/09/2013 14:15

For 28% wool, do you like leopard print?

tethersend · 23/09/2013 14:20

leopard and 60% wool

Ooh I got last year's version of the Planet one. It looks great on and still looks very new (though worn lots). Can heartily recommend

BeCool · 23/09/2013 14:37

wow you are all amazing!

Our local EAST has turned into an Outlet so the coat wasn't in stock. I did get some bargain nice merino wool cardigans for winter though.

They did have a lovely cashmere blend coat in stock for £90 - loved the colour too (dark peacock green). But it was a tie front coat and I was reminded that tie front coats aren't any good for me. They always have the belt loops too high and the tie up with all this boobage makes for a clumsy/bulky silhouette, rather than a pleasing one.

So buttons or zips - there is lots to consider above and I will take some time tonight to look properly - work is interfering with MN'ing again.

I've just ordered the Planet one in 2 sizes and will return (hopefully) one. Free delivery, good one JL.

Thanks all - you've made such a difference to what has been an annual nightmare for me.

Last couple of years in desperation I've just brought cheap ill fitting coats from TK Max or similar & felt crappy/frumpy wearing them all winter. Now I shall feel glam.

And if the Planet one doesn't fit or I count like it (though I doubt it) there are several more here upthread for me to try out.

Flowers clever S&B Queens

The Planet coat arrived from JL - I kept the 18 and returned the 20 (hooray for small 'gifts' from the Universe) and I'm sorted for a new winter coat I'm happy with for the first time in years.

So thank you all again!

I'm saving up for a Jaeger one for next year!
