I'm disappointed with my Jo Malone perfume

It smelt so good in the shop! In real life it did but lasted about 20minutes. I'm going back to Armani Elle.

It will do well on eBay at least!

Lighthousekeeping · 23/09/2013 00:54

No I bought the teeny tiny £39 bottle and it's one I will use for work but, I wouldn't have bought it for that reason. The sales person layered it with body cream etc. on it's own it just doesn't hold up. I'm so gullible!

I'm a total sucker for perfume. That sneaky layering they do grrrr! Oh well at least you can still enjoy it. I loved the first Liz Earle fragrance but only lasted 5 bloody mins and so was back to Hermes which I love but get cross when something under-delivers so much.

geminigirl · 23/09/2013 01:18

Oh nooooo, I was going to treat myself to the Pomegranate one as I saw wonderful reviews on it on John Lewis website.....which one did you get?

StupidFlanders · 23/09/2013 02:05

Do you think some perfumes work/react better with different skin types?
I find most perfumes have that effect on me.
If I want to smell nice I use the soap, then the moisturizer and then the perfume but find it's the moisturizer which lasts best.

HotSoupDumpling · 23/09/2013 08:49

It's not your fault. jM perfumes never last long. If you are confident and have the time, and need the money back, I would suggest going into the flagship store (or any indep JM boutique) and asking loudly for your money back. It does work sometimes!

SundaySimmons · 23/09/2013 09:01

I take things back if I don't like them or they don't last long enough. I've never been refused an exchange or refund.

Usually I am happy to have an exchange but if there is nothing I like then I get my money back.

I have never encountered a problem from any store.

Jo Malone is expensive and you are paying for the name so take it back if it isn't long lasting.

SundaySimmons · 23/09/2013 09:17

I like to smell what I am wearing so applying fragrance to my skin isn't the only thing I do. I spray my hair which is now below shoulder length and I spray a scarf if I am wearing one as fragrance seems to last permanently of fabric. Just make sure you keep the same fragrance to the same scarf.

I also spray the palms of my hands and rub together and find the fragrance lasts longer than on my artists, although it disappears the moment you wash your hands.

polyhymnia · 23/09/2013 10:14

I think Jo Malone is vastly over-rated

BeaLola · 23/09/2013 10:28

I agree re the perfumes. I only tend to buy the bath oil or the body creme.

Aquelven · 23/09/2013 10:29

So do I.

coffeeinbed · 23/09/2013 10:39

It's always been fleeting.
After EL bought it up it went worse.

Lighthousekeeping · 23/09/2013 11:04

I do have the bag. Lime and basil. I fee totally ripped off. To think she nearly got me to buy two "because they compliment each other"

oH, that's a shame.

DH has the Amber and Lavender (which we both use!) and I find it to be long lasting.

I would have a go at returning it also, maybe swap for a different scent?

ExcuseTypos · 23/09/2013 11:38

Lime and Basil is my favourite.

I always find that whilst I might not be able to smell the perfume after a while, I still get people commenting on it, hours later. So you get used to the smell, but others can still smell it iykwim?

itwillbebetter · 23/09/2013 14:20

I love Jo Malone - pomegranate noir always gets comments when I wear it. Red Roses and Orange Blossom are good stayers too.
However my DH bought me a large box set of her new Jo Loves perfumes (the new venture she has just set up ) They are the most horrid perfumes I have ever smelt in my life. Such a shame he spent a small fortune and I can't even bear the smell of a single one Sad

Snog · 24/09/2013 21:15

i just made my first jm purchase of there newly launched " suede peony" or suchlike.
i love it and would recommend

Snog · 24/09/2013 21:16

their

LeslieKnope · 24/09/2013 21:18

I have and adore Jo Malone Vanilla Anise.

Last week I bought a sample of Pomegranate Noir and it is gopping. Like Old Spice mixed with car air freshener. Foul foul stuff.

Ragusa · 24/09/2013 21:22

I have fig and cassis Jo Malone, love the smell but agree it dissipates far, far too quickly. It was £39 so am disappointed :(

ShootMeNowPlease · 24/09/2013 21:24

I think her older ones don't last as long as the newer ones - she was taken over by Estee Lauder or someone and they've got technically better. I'm wearing Blackberry and Bay at the moment, which I really like and lasts well.

Leslie, Pomegranate Noir is ghastly on me too. On a friend it smells gorgeous, like Chanel - I think it's skin chemistry or something.

Ragusa · 24/09/2013 21:26

That's interesting, prior to Jo Malone I was using Estee Lauder (pleasures) and it lasted amazingly well.

ShreddedHoops · 24/09/2013 22:00

I love Pomegranate Noir and it lasts well on me. DH hates it though Sad

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 24/09/2013 22:52

I have three (Lime Basil, something Iris and Plum Blossom). I blend tem together and like them, but they really don't last long.
I'd much rather buy 'normal' perfumes but I've become allergic to them since having kids.
Headaches, streaming nose, itchy skin - none of whch I get from JM scents. Still pisses me off that they cost that much with no staying power.
