What do your small boys wear on their feet in the winter?

Just had a disaster shopping trip with DS (nearly 6). He had some excellent Timberland leather trainers last winter. They were warm, waterproof and very rugged. I got them in TK Maxx, so paid about £20 for them. Bargain!

However, he's now outgrown them and I'm trying to replace them with something similar but finding it very hard. All the high street shops seem to have ridiculously impractical shoes for winter. Very flimsy, with smooth soles. Tons of stupid characters and neon laces. Hmm

Where on earth do people buy decent, practical shoes for boys to wear when it's damp and muddy?! I need something rugged and outdoorsy, without breaking the bank. Geox look fabulous but about twice as much as I can afford...any suggestions?

Hi, Clarks do shoes with Goretex in black or brown. £44 not £20 though. We had the brown ones for both boys (age 3 and 6) last year for both school and weekend as pretty smart. No need to worry about puddle jumping on the way to school!

Last winter we had these for the youngest and the big ones had Chelsea boots (we had a wedding to go to so wanted something a bit smarter)
