Nail Envy - please tell me your experiences...

I bought this a week or so ago (special offer on QVC) and have been following the instructions. So far, my nails are exactly the same as they always are - i.e., weak and flaky.

I really thought this product was meant to be the ultimate - have I fallen for hype again or am I just being impatient? Has Nail Envy actually worked for anyone? Reviews would suggest Yes, but Hmm

it doesn't work on me, but have recently got the red carpet manicure gel set from qvc which does work!

Mine get flaky and weak towards the end of winter (I wear polish a lot more in winter, plus cold weather drying them out etc). A couple of years ago I tried Nail Envy both on its own doing the layer every other day thing, and as my regular basecoat for a few months, not only no improvement, but it tended to peel off taking the surface of the nail with it.

Hopefully · 19/09/2013 20:13

I would think any benefit it has would be limited on the oldest bits of nail (ie the bit at the end, where it flakes), and cumulative on the rest of the nail, so I would give it three weeks or so and see how it is.

FWIW I use it and I think it does make my nails less peely.

Nail Envy didn't help my nails at all, in fact it always sort of bubbled then peeled off in layers, usually taking a layer of my nail with it too.

FreshLeticia · 19/09/2013 21:00

It's rubbish.

DidIMissSomething · 19/09/2013 21:04

Works brilliantly for me - just do it sporadically when nails are weak and they seem to strengthen up well - mine are weak not flaky though

AmethystMoon · 19/09/2013 21:04

Ok, going against the grain here...I've used it for over five years and really rate it. I basically use it as a base coat. I use the Matte one which grips polish well and with a top cost even dark coloured polish lasts five days with minimal, if any chipping. Definitely less flaking of nails when I am using it.

opi avoplex works great for me

I use it off and on (I work P/T and cannot wear any product on my nails at work)

But over the summer holidays when I was off, I used it fervently and my nails were brilliant.
But, back to the real world, the endless handwashing and the latex gloves my nails are back to their rubbishy ways Sad Hmm

NigellasGuest · 21/09/2013 18:58

Perhaps I need to give it a bit more time then. I might try using it as a base coat and putting actual colour on top. Might give more protection. So far I've just been using the nail envy on its own.

Rubbish - made my nails even worse - I felt completely duped. What made a difference to mine, and very quickly was Solgar Hair, Skin and Nails supplement from health food shops. Really strong, hard nails and amazingly made my hair grow!

NigellasGuest · 21/09/2013 19:09

How long did you use it for, SillySarah?

OP posts:
SofaCanary · 21/09/2013 19:23

I use it once a week as a base coat it works brilliantly, my nails are naturally kind of soft and peely. Will not be without it.

Sillysarah49 · 21/09/2013 19:28

It was amazingly quick - my mum was taking them and told me about it and she said after about a week her nails were really strong! I didn't really believe her that anything could work so quickly, but I thought I'd give them a go. Hey presto strong, non flakey nails for the first time in my life. Re: the hair - I'd been trying to grow it for several years and I couldn't get in past my collar, then all of a sudden my hairdresser mentioned how much it had grown. Couldn't think why until one of the other hairdressers asked whether I had been taking any supplements.

SubliminalMassaging · 21/09/2013 19:30

I have not heard of Nail Envy but I have used something which I'm guessing is very similar by the sounds of things. My nails were no better at all - in fact probably worse.

Marylou2 · 21/09/2013 20:06

I'm devoted to this product. I always wipe my nails with polish remover before initial application .2 coats and then add an extra one every other day. Remove weekly and start again.2 weeks to lovely nails.Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/09/2013 20:16

Interesting about the vitamins SillySarah - I started taking them about 4 months ago (Holland and Barratt brand, not Solgar) because my hair seemed to be falling out more than usual. The hair loss has slowed (I know you get cycles for this naturally though) but I hadn't noticed any difference to my nails, but I haven't worn polish for months. Mine suffer in Jan / Feb time as I wear it all the time in winter and it seems to trash them, will be interesting to see if they suffer this year with the vitamins.

hollyisalovelyname · 21/09/2013 21:38

Didn't notice amy difference. Try the Mavala nail stregthener.
I'm off to but Solgar. Thank you.

ICantFindAFreeNickName · 21/09/2013 22:49

I have been using it one and off since Feb. My nails were not particularly flaky but generally week. They are very strong now & I regularly have to file them down else they get too long.
