So what the hell do people wear when they go for a night out these days?

For the first time in absolutely years (literally, I am not joking) me and DH are going out! Not just down the pub for a few pints, but into the Big Smoke, to a cool music venue. This is all very exciting and wonderful, but I have not got the faintest idea what to wear. Clearly some kind dressed-up-casual look is in order.... but how do I achieve this?

Any ideas or inspiration would be most welcome. I am 35 so need to avoid the 'mutton' look if at all possible.

TIA

What's your size and what's your budget ?, do you prefer dresses or trousers, heels or flats ? what's your hair colour ?

if you are going to a gig, wear something that beer washes out of well, and shoes you can dance in
jeans, blouse, red lipstick, jewellery, boots? drapey cami if your arms are up to it?

Skinny jeans and heels! :)

i go to loads of gigs , i'm early 40s. Skinny jeans, heels or chunky boots /heeled boots/ and any top eg t-shirt with cool design, blouse (often vintage) or occasionally a basque type if keep jacket on

(but i'm tall , curvy and red haired and can't hide away so i never play it too safe, as you can't miss me so i might as well go for it!)

Don't think you necessarily need to avoid the 'mutton' look at 35 - it's about dressing to suit your shape and your 'style' tbh.

I'm 35 and to a 'cool music venue' would probably wear skinny leather trousers, a casual dressy top and Jalouse or shoe boots. Probably 25 year olds who would wear the same but we'd style it in a different way iykwim so I don't feel like mutton Grin

Agree with others that skinny jeans & heels is a safe bet for music venues or else dress, opaques & flat or Jalouse style boots

I'm 37, would wear a little dress with opaque tights and boots. I'm (now) quite slim and quite short so it looks just right.

Or I would wear skinny jeans, an off shoulder top and heels.

Enjoy your night out and don't worry too much about what you wear, just have fun!

(At 35 you can't look like mutton cos you're still quite young, but you CAN look like Lamb dressed as mutton - avoid the frump factor.

I used to wear more frumpy clothes before I realised my mistake.
I have lots of photos of me with a young face and 'old' clothes.)
