Ok, so I went to a vair posh wedding a few weeks ago, for which my shoulder length hair was curled into the most amazing ringlets. Ever.

In a moment of madness, I booked my self in, (yes, you can see where this is going now) for a perm.

Needless to say, I hate hate hate it. I've lived with it for a week and have cried almost everyday. Some days twice.

I'm considering hot footing it to boots 1st thing to get a straightening kit, as I can't afford to go back and have it professionally done as I'm over £80 down after the perm.

I also don't have time to straighten it every day as I have 3 dc and work
Full time.

Reminds me of my 1970s afro disaster. The curls loosened up over a while.

I'm not familiar with modern day perms but perhaps it will soon start dropping out a bit?

Can you put it up and have curly bits down the side?

OK, how are you drying/styling it?

How soon after the perm did you first wash it?

I have long hair (to my bra strap) and have a spiral perm on bendy rollers once a year.(looks a bit Debra Messing)

I use John Frieda frizz ease products and try and let it dry naturally for as long as possible and use the hair dryer for a few minutes to finish it off/push it into place.

Tis true, I am indeed rockin' a 'fro.

The crazy thing, it's not the first time, I too am a child of the 70's and therefore should know better

Perms take awhile to settle.

It will drop. Blow dry it and run your fingers through it to loosen the curls.

I had my perm done the other week and try and leave it as long as possible before the first wash as I think the perm takes more and lasts longer, first two days hair looks ok, day three starts to look dodgy so I fasten it up, day four starts to look desperate... when I got up on day five DH was

I also never brush my hair, I run my fingers through it every day and get the tangles out with a wide tooth comb when I wash it (every other day)

I've been using almost every conceivable styling product on the shelves to tame the beast. The best being twisted sista curl defining creme, but even that loses its hold after

I let it dry natuarally, but now it's (suddenly) colder I've been using a diffuser to dry it.

I didn't wash it for 3 days, I can't believe I've been so stupid.

Anyone have experience of a straightening kit, surely it's a reverse perm..no?

Try John Freda frizz ease my friend swears by it.

Can you go back to the hairdresser saying its not what you asked for - and ask them to do something with it, or at least give you some practical advice to help style it so you don't look like a child of the 80s!

i have been so tempted to get a perm recently. are the new modern perms not supposed to be super relaxed and easy to style. id love to see pictures.

Ha! There is nothing no-thing relaxed about this perm believe you me, it's so far from relaxed it's positively bouncing of the walls

Alas my hairdresser is as much at a loss as I am with it, she is obviously mortified.

The way I see it I have the folowing options

1. Reverse perm it
2. Colour it some wild red or some such
3. Shave it off

I've been there! And I didn't learn from my mistakes either because I distinctly remember, on at least two occasions, using straightener on my hair on the very same day of the disastrous perms. Despite the dire warnings on the packs. However, I'm talking at least fifteen years ago, so the ingredients in both perms and straightening products may have changed. Guess it depends how much you hate it. Could you ask a professional hairdresser for their opinion?

Juan, Hate would be putting it mildly, so very very mildly.

Its not the worst hair disaster ie had. I recall having green hair (black over a perm), now that was a look

I used to have the bottom layers permed to make it more manageable, I would blow dry it under and it was slick and swishy.

Can't you do that with it? Just blow dry on a large bristle brush?

I feel for you, really. I know people say "it's only hair, it will grow" (or "grow out" in this case) but that doesn't help in the meantime. I would risk the straightener - if it was me. But don't want you taking my advice and then tracking me down to shoot me if it all falls out ...

What kind of perm did you ask for? Have you tried going back to hairfresser? I'm sure you hate it cause ird New I reckon you need to settle into it give it a few weeks
