Top Shop - anyone like it anymore or not?

I know a lot of MNers like Top Shop. About a year or 2 ago I thought they had nice stuff.

eg imperial lily dress etc. these days I find it all samey and not much I'd buy - even in Oxford Circus branch.

have they changed designers? My young SIL even prefers Vero Moda now to Toppers.

Opinions?

I don't know. I stopped shopping there in my early 20s as it was full of teenagers.

Fairylea · 16/09/2013 14:03

I can only speak for dh who at 26 thinks he is the most fashionable man on the planet (and is married to me who basically couldn't give a flying fuck) and he always used to buy everything topman up until about a year ago when he said it all went totally crap, bad quality and poor design. He buys everything from asos or urban outfitters now.

One pair of jeans he brought from topman stretched 4 inches in the waist after we washed them! We measured them and took pics and returned them. They did refund which was good but the quality was horrid.

MissDD1971 · 16/09/2013 14:03

yeah but they had styles a few years ago or a year or 2 ago that women in their 30s and 20s were happily buying and wearing.

not now... for me anyway.

I'm 30 and feel too old for it.

I like Vero Moda though!

MissDD1971 · 16/09/2013 14:04

fairylea - that's what I mean, poor quality, bad design.

yeah my SIL loves Urban Outfitters too and so do I actually. even though I'm scared sometimes by the uber trendies in there

I got a nice pair of ankle boots there last year which I bought after recommendation on here and I'm wearing today.

They go up to a 9 so good for bigfooters like me!

freddiefrog · 16/09/2013 14:40

Not so much these days.

I did buy a jacket in there earlier in the year - a blazer, grey body, black sleeves which I wear a lot, but I haven't really found anything else I like for ages.

I still have the odd look, and I don't normally go with the idea that I shouldn't wear certain things because of my age, but half the stuff in there now I just don't get

tywysogesgymraeg · 16/09/2013 14:42

DDs and their teenage friends still love it. I think it is aimed at teenagers really.

Sonotkylie · 16/09/2013 17:56

I like the shoes and some jewellery. Also bought a big black and bright blue leather clutch bag there earlier this year, which has to be one of the most versatile and admired things I own! Possibly because its not very me, but I love it! You do need to buy only obviously good quality
Clothes in TS are not made for large chested 46 year olds.

peachmint · 16/09/2013 17:58

Not keen any more. Much prefer Zara and ASOS.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/09/2013 18:03

I like their tube skirts and occasional tops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/09/2013 18:04

Oh and bracelets.

SundaySimmons · 16/09/2013 18:05

Most stuff is for youngsters.

I bought this recently

www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?searchTerm=Parka&storeId=12556&productId=8996173&urlRequestType=Base&categoryId=&langId=-1&productIdentifier=product&catalogId=33057

I am nearly 50!

I wanted a car coat and something o walk around shopping centres, so didnt need it to be warm or good in the rain!

My daughter is a harsh critic and would tell me if I look like mutton and she approves it!

I think it's overpriced and the quality is not there. I loved it in the 90's, I must be getting old.

Bexicles · 16/09/2013 19:42

Just remembered the last time I was in TS I bought a blusher and lipstick, I was pleasantly surprised as both are excellent quality so I would recommend their make up.

cleoowen · 16/09/2013 19:44

I am 32 buy feel too old for it now. Don't are much I like anymore and everything is either super clingy for skinny models or very unflattering. Prefer zara and oasis.

WeightyKaty · 16/09/2013 19:47

Agree it's overpriced. Must have quite some competition w ASOS primarni and river island etc
