Help me find some effing tights that effing fit!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am tallish, and most of it is leg. I am also a bit overweight, and most of it is arse and thigh.

This is like, the SUM OF ALL FEARS as far as hosiery is concerned.

I seem to spend my life with Nora Batty ankles, or with a gusset around my knees, or with tights sort of sawing into my groin trying to sever my legs at the joint. OR the fabric is so rough and unpleasant it's like wearing cheesegraters.

I used to wear Boots 'Tall and Fuller Figure' tights (tactfully named Grin) - for years and years and years. Then last year they changed them and all of a sudden I can't get the fucking things on! It's definitely not me - I've actually lost a fair bit of weight.

Can anyone tell me where to find decent opaques?

I've tried cheap ones (Sainsbo's and Morrisons) and the M&S Value ones, and they're all horrible.

They need to be cheap, too - I only ever wear skirts and dresses so spend months in opaque tights and seem to buy 4 or 5 new pairs a month Shock

I like H&M ones, never fall down, I am 5'10" and size 12, I buy either 18-20 or 20-22. Primark opaques are remarkably nice too, but again buy XL.

Personally I think buying them massively too big is the solution.

Ooo H&M/Primark, I never thought of there: I just assumed they'd be insultingly tiny

Good tip on just buying massive. I suppose I'm childishly loth to buy something in size 20-22 but if it means I can get my tights on without swearing and breaking into a sweat...

I tend to get my tights from primark but have to buy large/extra large otherwise the gusset is round my knees after an hour

GobblersKnob · 14/09/2013 15:52

Don't worry no-one is going to be looking at the label in your tights Wink

Buy massive, be happy Grin

Wolford XL also fab. Take no notice of the sizing guide which says I should be a medium or Large. Huge is indeed the way forward.

I have the same problem. The worst place is New Look, which is a shame because I LOVE coloured tights! Red, green, yellow, blue, spotty...I'm not afraid of colour! And they do sell nice colours. I did get some lovely emerald green ones from H&M and are a MUCH better fit than the hobbit tights from New Look!!

RunFatGirlRun · 14/09/2013 17:06

Thanks everyone - I like the Buy Massive Be Happy slogan Grin

Marylou are Wolford expensive, and if so, it is worth it because they last?? I'm fed up with putting on eight different pairs of a morning before I finally find the sole pair in the sodding household that a) fits b) isn't trying to saw my leg off and c) isn't full of holes. I've often said if I won the lottery I'd have a new pair of tights every single day

Levante do an extra tall, and they really last as they are long enough so you aren't hauling on them. Buying big never worked for me unless I bought control top tights as they'd just slide down.

If you go on www.mytights.co.uk or www.uktights.co.uk they both have a section for tall tights

I find that tesco, sainsburys and asda ones are all perfect for me - size 20ish and about 5'10, opaques or thinner ones, just buy the largest size.
