Fine knit merino or merino/cashmere blend

Which is better? Which will last longer? And more importantly which will do better on a wool cycle in the machine? This is for basic jumpers for layering.

Should have said its the fabric content I'm wondering about not which brand to buy.

I believe merino is hardier than cashmere, so on the basis of longevity, I would say merino. However, cashmere is warmer and softer. And isn't overly fragile. So, I would go for wool cashmere so you can enjoy a warmer, softer jumper.

I would go for the blend if you can for the warmth as well as softness. Be very gentle when washing though...

Merino is definitely more hardwearing. Cashmere is warmer but in terms of washing can be hit & miss. I have a Jaeger cashmere jumper that shrank quite badly even tho I followed the washing instructions. Whereas a Tesco cashmere jumper has been (accidentally) put thru non-wool washes and still looks brand new without any pilling.

Pilling is another issue to consider - again, my merino knits all look good as new despite several seasons' wear.

Thanks was wondering about the piling effect. Am looking at either the uniqlo merino or the wool overs cashmere merino blend I think from memory the cashmere content is 20%. May just order both to try to decide!

Hmmm hadn't considered the shrinkage aspect ... Something I seem quite good at!

I bought Uniqlo merino jumpers last year and wore them a lot. Preferred the round neck style as the v neck had a strange rib around the neckline. They still look good as new. I also find Gap merino good quality too.
