Anyone used a shoe-stretching service?

Saw it in a local shoe-repair shop. My question is (as I have no idea how it works) would they be able to stretch the leather on a Mary-Jane bar across the shoe? The shoes themselves fit fine but I have a high instep and the bars are really tight. But I LURVE the shoes and am loathe to send them back. Can the shoe-stretchers help?

I'm going to pop along later to ask in person but if I can get an answer beforehand it might save a trip out. Thank you

as far as I could see when looking at shoes on one at the podiatrists (to distract myself from what they were doing to my foot!) they work by putting the shoe on a large foot shaped thing which is expanded in the direction the shoe needs to be stretched in - so would have thought they could try stretching the shoe as a whole in that direction, which would include the strap. Is there any room on the strap for adding an extra hole though, assuming they are buckle straps - might be easier?

Thanks. The strap is attached with a popper so if it's stretched in the 'normal' way it just snaps open. The shoe repair place was bloody closed yesterday! Ooooh they are such beautiful shoes as well....

I'll try again today.
