What will de-frizz my DDs hair please?

DD is 14 and has lovely long, wavy hair - but it gets frizzy bits sticking up (worse after the summer). I've got a totally different type of hair so don't know what products would be best suited to tame it - bearing in mind that being a teen it can manage to be a bit greasy at the same time.

Any suggestions please?

Try low shampoo method. Takes a week or so to get used to it but you basically shampoo with minimal shampoo once a week (use extra scrubbing with fingers to shift dirt) then condition every day, using conditioner as a shampoo (again scrubbing with fingers to shift the dirt). Don't rub hair dry.

It's basically the curly girl method - worth a google!

Moroccan oil, just from mid length down

You can get it in primary for a pound for a small bottle so at that price it's worth a try

I've heard of morroccan oil... but the most obvious frizz is on top of her head!

Try R&B Hair Moisturiser from Lush after washing, conditioning & blotting hair with a towel. Rub it onto fingers then stroke through damp hair from about 2 inches away from scalp to ends. Smells of Jasmine mmm.

Will look out for that next time I'm somewhere with a Lush - meanwhile is there anything worth getting from ASDA? I really do appreciate any advice - I've got the sort of straight fine hair which would look like an oilslick if I used any sort of leave-in treatments so its unknown territory to me!

Naked leave-in conditioner - think I may have bought this in Asda in the past but not sure.
If you're anywhere near a Boots then their pink curl creme is really good and really cheap. I second the low shampoo (curly girl) method - it has really worked on my hair and starting to use it on my DD's - she's only 3 though so don't know about teen grease, sorry!

I've been using coconut oil on my dd x2's hair. It has got rid of the frizz and left it soft and silky. Wholly recommend it. It's in the oil section not the beauty section!

I can't see her taking to it at the moment TBH. It might well be a method she'll want to try when she's older though.

She wears it in a side plait for school (to their disgust, the new Yr7s always seem to bring their pet headlice so they have to tie back long hair), plait or pony when she's doing watersports , and loose at other times.

I'll look out for the Naked and JF products - think the supermarkets usually have most of the latter. Thanks all!

Oh, coconut oil - how do you use it, please? (sounds like something that'd be particularly good in the summer hols, somehow)

Shampoo the scalp only but condition the whole length of hair anyway with a lightweight conditioner. Shampoo the lengths only when they start to show signs of build up like looking dull and sticky or stiff.

Try out different leave in conditioners until you find one that suits her hair and always be aware that companies change what goes into their products regularly so its best to re-check what she is using on her hair at least once a year.

I use Naked products, I am currently using their kids range. But there are better products out there if you are willing to look. The trick really is in not washing the lengths of the hair though, not just what product you use. It is my version of low poo that allows me to avoid greasy roots.

I also use coconut oil and it is great as long as you don't use too much. A lot of people use too much and then think it is too greasy for their hair. You really should be using very little and just getting it through the lengths and not near the scalp.

It looks like wax when it is cool but turns runnier than hair serum when warm and melts in the hand on contact.

I use it two thirds of the way down my hair where I am prone to dry ends.

My hairdresser has recommended I follow the curly girl method. Well... it did not mention 'the curly girl method' but his advice was the same.

I have not really followed it though, hence my experiencing a fairly frizzy state at the moment.

Back from Asda, JF was on a 3 for £10 so I got the shampoo, conditioner and serum from Morgause's link.

Part of the reason why it's particularly bad at the mo is probably her watersports - really does need to wash the whole lot after weekly dunking in the reservoir and of course every day on hols after being in salt water. Come the end of the season I'll suggest she goes easier on the ends.

Go curly girl - no poo, no cones - also at her age plait it when damp in sections with a bit of curl creme. This way you can skip wetting it again for 1 or 2 days just spritz and go.
Plenty of cheap products are cone free - tresemme, naked, some of the own brand stuff and curl creme or boots gel.

Aussie shampoo and conditioner are great. Takes a bit of experimenting with the different types but miracle moist is a good starting point.

By 'cone' do you mean silicones? Actually, come to think her hair looked great at the start of yr9 after she had to have nit treatment which is essentially a coating of silicones so maybe they suit her!

I tried her with Miracle moist - but it left her feeling greasy. Don't know if that was inadequate washing first or insufficient rinsing after or just general teenageriness.

(I love the aussie volume ones and the tresemme all day body so those are brands I've tried on her in different hair types already)

No cone is no silicone - silicone is annoying because when you first use it your hair does come out all nice and shiny looking etc. But it's because the silicone is coating it, underneath the hair suffers and will break ( I would guess that's the little frizzy sticky out bits ypu describe) or you get build up and your hair goes thick in a not good way.
Once I figured this out I managed to eliminate silicone which was in a lot of products I thoughtmy hair liked ( incidentally silicone are also present in a lot of fake 'oils' like Moroccan oil under a name that doesn't end in one.

About the greasiness - I'm wondering whether what ypu see ade too greasy is the way curlier hair needs to be? Curls just need a lot more moisture and oil helps lock that in. Could you try letting it be greasy for a few weeks and see how it settles?
I promise you I have lovely curly hair and not a grease ball but the amount of oil etc I put in my hair would make a straighty think oil slick

Ps not every conditioner in a brand is no cone just some.

Is she brushing it? That's another no-no for curls.

Frizz ease is fantastic.

I completely endorse what Firsttimer has written about silicone. R&B is no cone, coconut oil also works well on my hair, Body Shop do it in a handy sized tin.
