Angels - I need help with picking a dress for the House of Lords. Due to the size I need there is just no point in me going to normal high street retailers - there just isn't. So I have a few shortlisted...

Dress 1

Dress 2

Dress 3

Dress 4

Dress 5

Dress 6

There - thats them all - I can wear most colours - I am short and dumpy though and have huge body issues....

Um...a hard one to ask, but would be helpful to know your age (roughly)

And what event ....afternoon tea? cocktails? dinner?
Or breakfast lol

It really depends on why you're going there, 2, 4 and 5 look good for a drinks type do. I have been to the commons for a few events, and smart but not too 'party-ish' have been acceptable.
Have fun whatever you choose, and I have never felt too overwhelmed, just remember that half the Lords and MP's are taking advantage of the subsidised bars, so aren't interested or bothered by what people are wearing! Grin

Its an afternoon reception and awards ceremony....42, size 26, dumpy in the extreme...

OK, so being really honest my opinion fwiw:

Dress 1 - absolutely not
Dress 2 - I like (apart from the bow) But is fairly evening-y to me. Would worry about what the material is like buying from ebay, potential to look cheap & shiny
Dress 3 - Not quite as bad as dress 1 but still a no from me
Dress 4 - I like. Most 'go anywhere' of the dresses - more of a smart day dress
Dress 5 - difficult to tell. Looks like an inoffensive nice day dress. Think it could be quite frumpy if it's not full length on you (can't tell from the pictures)
Dress 6 - depends on the fabric again and your age I think.

Dress 7 - I like, but only if it's an evening event

Have you considered Lady V London? They do nice quality dresses and plus size. Sorry if you've considered and discounted already!

Dress 5. Gorgeous shoes, and nice jewellery. Classic, classy.

Dress 4 would be OK with a jacket, but probably too summery by the time you will be going.

1 & 2 are much too evening'y for an afternoon award do.
I'm afraid Dress 6 just gave me a 'wtf are you thinking' moment.

this is nice in blue or coral?

I have this in black and it is really lovely, flattering and comfortable.
I wear it with black tights/leggings but I am short.

I vote for 5 or 7..... Although its harder to tell what 5 is like when on. To my mind, plainer is best if you are not sure what the dress code is- blending in while still looking your best with great hair, nails, brows, shoes and bag.
Hope you feel good and have a wonderful time!
Are you up for an award yourself?
