Cashmere - if you were to invest in one piece, what would it be?

Yet again, I fnd myself looking at the Pure Cashmere, buying nothing simply because I'm undecided. Round neck, cardigan, polo neck (probably not)? A safe 'classic' colour (caramel, stone) or a more vibrant colour (cyclamen, coral, sapphire - but will it date quickly)

Pure have a good offer on (then again, they usually do but their stock sells out) so this time I am going to buy something .... just need a bit of direction!! Grin

I'd choose a slouchy, hip length v neck in grey or black.

Annianni · 11/09/2013 17:38

I've bought 2 slouchy v necks, one pale grey, the other neon pink.

burberryqueen · 11/09/2013 17:41

same as Remus, in black.

Kezztrel · 11/09/2013 17:43

I'd go for a slouchy longish v neck too, in a colour I wear a lot of like grey, black or navy. Or a close fitting crew neck if crew necks suit you.

If looked after, they last forever! Except for one beautiful smedley cardigan that I left on a chair and which my cat then snuggled on and decided to paw it resulting in a small hole. :(. Thankfully my one wasn't cashmere or it would have been some serious money wasted.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/09/2013 17:48

Navy slouchy v neck.

FloraFoxley · 11/09/2013 17:53

The only cashmere I have bought are socks , numerous pairs of wrist warmers and a lovely throw. All from Brora. I'd be too worried about killing a jumper!

noisytoys · 11/09/2013 17:54

I bought a 100% cashmere cardigan from the clearance bit of TK Maxx last week reduced from £169 to £18 it is the softest cardigan I've ever owned I like to stroke it Smile

mammie3 · 11/09/2013 17:56

Hello. A neutral tone will not date and can be used by most people. If you decide to go for a color I suggest you find out what colors works best for you. Some people looks better in cool tones and other looks better in warmer tones. The same as lighter shades or darker shades.

Twinklestein · 11/09/2013 18:03

Personally, I'd go for styles from Pure that you can't buy elsewhere.
I don't think the 'vibrant' colours date, I've got cardis from previous years in jewel colours - they're all going strong.

This season, I bought the classic cropped round necked cardigan in 'camel' (v flattering) the peplum cardi in 'cherry' (gorgeous), the ruffle cardi in 'berry', the boat neck dress in 'caramel', & a snood in 'taupe'.

Btw I'm about to sell an unworn Pure camel ruffle edge cardi in a size 10 on ebay, as it's too big. If you're interested I can send you a link. Smile

Mominatrix · 11/09/2013 20:27

I don't really think of cashmere as an investment piece - particularly when you can now get very good quality cashmere for decent prices. If I had a limited budget, I'd go to Uniqlo and get v-necks in 3 colours - black, taupe, and grey. These can be used in a wide variety of ways and don't date. Others might choose crew necks - I just vnecks more than crew necks.

AwkwardSquad · 11/09/2013 20:39

If I had the cash, I'd get a cardigan from Brora, in a classic shape and in one of their beautiful berry colours. Gorgeous and won't date.

scarlet76 · 11/09/2013 20:39

I have a camel coloured crew neck cashmere sweater that gets lots of wear cos it goes with everything - skinnys, pencil skirt, lace skirt, leggings....

FreshLeticia · 11/09/2013 21:12

Classic round-neck cardi, every time. I now have two Brora, courtesy of the sale and several others. I find greys are good on me (ash blonde), camel looks grim. The soft berry colours are good too.

MadameLeBean · 11/09/2013 21:15

My favourite are the round neck button up cardigans, the classic ones
which I have in a few colours

I also recently bought a polo neck from there, which I love but if I were to choose just one, the black round neck cardigan with buttons wins

MadameLeBean · 11/09/2013 21:16

I'm talking about pure collection btw

MadameLeBean · 11/09/2013 21:17

I particularly love my light grey and my primrose yellow one

HangingGardenofBabbysBum · 11/09/2013 21:26

Navy, charcoal or black.

Be careful with Pure; they had a shoddy goat or something a year or so ago and all the cashmere was thin and prone to bobbling. That was a huge bore as I've got Pure jumpers going back almost 14 years and they are gorgeous. Got a full refund and Customer Service second to none but it was boring and disappointing

Would say Brora but they've gone a bit fashion-y and full of Sophie Dahl floppy blouses.

Your best bet is one of the old Border mill shops. (Johnstons, Barrie) They are old fashioned but stunning quality and you'll be handing them down to your DCs one day.

justasecond · 11/09/2013 21:27

A light grey crew neck loose fit jumper.

MrsMcGregor · 11/09/2013 21:37

Sorry for disappearing ... it's been a loooong evening but finally they're in bed!

Gosh, so many votes for v neck - slouchy or otherwise. The thing is, I like warmth and lots of it - cant bear the thought of a cold neck. Is the crew neck a bit grannyish? I got DM a cashmere polo from Pure a few years ago and it is lovely quality. A cardigan would get lots of wear - layered with long sleeved t's. Is there a danger of camel ageing one?

Off to browse Pure website again .....

I'd invest in a cameo sludge green sniper camouflage all in one onsie type thing with built in removable foot socks and smoking gloves. Can just imagine the comfort sitting up on a hill in my bivvy bag wearing head to toe cashmere whilst wilting stinging nettles over a fire to eat, under the stars........would be close to nirvana Grin

duckyfuzz · 11/09/2013 21:50

I bought boden's cashmere hoody last year and must have worn it almost every day since then, not sure how I ever coped without it!

Claxonia · 11/09/2013 22:06

My cashmere dressing gown is the best present I have ever had. I look forward to cold weather so I can wear it.

TK Maxx have a few Pure Collection jumpers on their website.
