Stylish ways to dress in the rain?

I have a 3mo baby and over the past few weeks have really enjoyed taking her for long, long walks (up to 10 miles). However, it's been glorious shorts and flip flop weather so I haven't had to worry about rain. We've also moved out of our city flat (Brighton, not London) to a quiet village and my husband now has our car to go to work so if I want to go out in the day to any groups, yoga, the library or for a coffee (and I like to get out at least for a short walk) I have to walk a fair distance and use public transport. I need a good waterproof coat with hood so I can push the pram etc without a brolly. I really don't want an outdoorsy North Face type coat and would ideally like something that will go well with skinny jeans and boots or dresses and chunky knit tights. I've looked in all my usual shops: French Connection, Whistles, Oasis, All Saints - so far nothing! Am I missing a trick here :) ??

I bought this one in TK Maxx. Not sure if that's what you are after - it might be a bit warm for now though.

I've just ordered this in black which is only shower proof. I intend to try adding additional waterproofing by using a spray (although I have no idea if this will work).

I've got this in the khaki. It is lightweight, has a good shape and a lovely spotty lining.

When I was at the long-walks-in-the-rain-with-the-pram stage I got a mac from Boden, which was fab and four years later is still going strong. It's a fab dark green and black retro 60s pattern and has been much complimented. I wear it with skinny jeans all the time. No idea what patterns they have this season but might be worth a look?

Thanks frankietwospots - after getting thoroughly soaked this morning I've just ordered that target dry one - looks great and there is 15% off through schoolgatestyle blog!

Vero Moda has some lovely parkas which I'd just waterproof. Mango has some nice they say workwear parkas but nice.

I've just bought the Target Georgia off this thread - DH passes on his thanks as I did want the North Face Arctic Parka until I saw it Grin

fashion coats are really shopping outfits and will not be waterproof, even vaguely.

You can get good outdoor jackets which do fit well and look good - goretex linings are the way to go. Wear with fleece underneath. If you actually want to be comfortable in the rain jeans are useless - instantly wet and clammy, and take forever to dry. Walking trousers don't need to be cagoule style and can still look ok.

Seasalt has a good collection of rain coats which look half decent.
