Is anyone having trouble with their Didriksons zipper?

I bought a Taylor parka a few months ago but haven't had occasion to wear it until today.

I can't get the zip to work.

Everyone was ready to go, baby outside in pram, boys waiting not so patiently and there I was standing like a little girl with my coat up around my waist trying to get the sodding zip bit to go into the other bit so I could do it up.

Ten Minutes Later it went in, but by then I decided not to chance wearing it in the rain as I think I'll have to send it back. Sad

I emailed the shop but she said this is normal and they are all the same.

Are they?

Yes! I am..I bought a Veronica but have only tried it on so far and had a mare getting the zipper up. It's one of the double sided ones I.e. top and bottom zipping. The bottom part just wouldn't click in allowing a pull up IYSWIM. It did eventually with lots of taking off and 'persuading'. There must be a knack, surely?

That's what she told me Boo.

I paraphrased but I actually couldn't do it up when I bought it - took it off, left it, thought it was just me.

Tried it again a few weeks ago, couldn't do it - emailed them, she said keep trying, lots of ladies have this issue Hmm and it ought to click and then you can do it up.

I tried a few times with it hanging up, got the hang of it and thought it was fine.

Today, I thought it would be fine but it was not. I got a very sore finger, trying, and it really did refuse to go in.

Mine is the double zip too.

I was thinking of exchanging it for another one but tbh if they are all like this whats the point!

Thankyou for replying, I'm not sure whether to be pleased or not...!

Yup - took a few weeks to settle in with mine, does up easily now but was very frustrating to begin with. I ended up fastening it with the poppers when in a hurry.
You have to hold the base of the zip really firmly and taught. I Promise it'll get easier though and you'll soon wonder how you survived a winter without a didrikson coat. I love mine and am looking forward to colder weather so I can wear it again.

Oh wonderful, that is encouraging! Thanks Shirley.

I always try to hold it that way but as it is so long I need arms like a gibbon to pull it taut Grin

Where do you hold it - on the actual zip, or the bottom of the coat etc. (diagram please would be helpful) Grin

I bought a Didriksons last year and had the same problem and thought I would have to send it back but after a protracted fiddle the first few times I wore it it got much easier until not a problem at all. I think it a combination of getting the knack right and the zip loosening up. I think for me it was keeping the bottom bit of jacket straight while I slotted the zip together. Keep going with it - I love my Didriksons!

I ended up wearing the boden mac I got years ago and never wore as it looks crap on me. And it felt really cold and empty inside. Sad

I definitely need padding.

bought cathryn coat in grey last year, same problem here, two 'zip-teeth' are now missing, so i have to replace the zipper, can't live without this coat!

Boopear · 10/09/2013 18:38

Ah, fab. Will keep trying then! Very glad you posted Rooners. Thanks all!

ShirleySharpeyes · 10/09/2013 18:39

Eventually you honestly won't even remember there was a problem with the zip. Deffo worth persevering with and sooooo much nicer than the hollow (and ubiquitous) Boden rainy day mac. Grin

agree, you will get used to the feel of it and it seems to loosen up after a few weeks, I had many moments too standing in the front porch feeling like a three yr old who cant do up their own coat!!!
