high-ish waist, skinny/slim leg but not skin tight, £40 max.
any ideas?

Gap has lovely burgundy cords and jeans. £44.99 I think but codes pop up all the time.

I got these from M&S last year and they're excellent. I think they were pretty popular here. They call them jeggings but would say they're more like skinny jeans. I got them in khaki too! Marks often have 20% off online promos so worth waiting till then?

Not jeans, but I just had some burgundy chinos delivered from H&M. They were about £6 in the sale. The website is down so I can't link.

I have some exactly as you describe from Uniqlo. I've also seen some in H&M recently.
