How do you know if you've wide feet?

Probably a stupid question, sorry. Just wondering how people know they have wide feet?

Because most shoes are to narrow to wear without pain and the feet don't even fit into a lot of pairs that are the correct size. IME.

Because you gave difficulty getting shoes that are wide enough.
