Asked hairdresser to tone down my highlights with lowlights...

So she proceeded to put lighter ones in to get rid of my roots...and then said 'next time you'll have to go darker or do a full head of highlights'...WTF?!!

So what do I do next time? I don't want to fork out for a full head but neither do I want to go too dark either. Is it possible to just get half a head of lowlights that kind of help blend in my roots?

every 3 or so times I have my hair highlighted I have a base colour applied to all other hair (not in the foil packets), which helps to stop it going blonder and blonder, this is more effective IMO than using lowlights as you still have to use blonde as well to avoid the root problem.

I used to have this issue. When I went back to blonde highlights, I bullied my hairdresser into giving me 2 different colours, one very slightly darker than the other. It means the re growth is barely noticeable. My hairdresser was amazed at how natural it looks Hmm.. I rather suspect this is what you were aiming for?

Op I would be seriously peed off about paying for something you didn't ask for, have you complained?

sorry to butt in nomore, but olivia I'm having this done on Thursday, do they dry the base coat before doing the highlights? Just wondered if you get to see the other colour without highlights?

Go back. It's NOT what you asked for. They SHOULD correct it free of charge.

Karbea, no foils go on, then a colour is applied to all other hair around the foil packets, with a brush.

After my highlights I get a toner put over all my hair - it tones the highlights down to a more golden colour rather than brassy and does my roots/greys too. It has to be on for just the right amount of time though ....
