Sweatshirt or similar for family days out

I am rubbish at buying clothes. In the last few years I have managed to curb my tendency to panic buy cheap clothes and I'm trying to buy fewer better quality clothes, but I am stumped!

I want a chunky, warm sweatshirt (I think). I want to wear jeans and a fitted t shirt and chuck the sweatshirt in the buggy/car/bag for when it gets chilly. For example, a day at the beach - want something to chuck on if it gets windy/on the way home, day out to peppa pig world - want something under the buggy to throw on in late afternoon.

I have a great sweatshirt from fatface but it is too old to admit to and is washed out to the extreme.

Please help! I don't have an unlimited budget, but am happy to spend up to about £50 for something that will look good, wash well and last a while.

Joules are very good for sweatshirts. I've always found they wash and wear well.

i would get a fine knit jumper - much lighter

Superdry Henley style sweatshirts are very nice (no obvious logo) I also saw some with beaded edges in the shop in Bath the other day, though could not find them on the internet.

I'm on the same mission Happy. Got some gorgeous looking ones in Primark for £6 and before I'd even washed them once, they were covered in bobbles. I like Fat Face ones (apart from the ones that have 'Fat Face' scrawled on the collars as they wear and wash so well and are soft. I've got a Joules one but it's really 'rigid' somehow.

Have you tried Gap? Their's wash/wear well and if you can get one without GAP on it, they'd be worth checking out.

Have you considered a Softshell jacket? They're fleecy on the inside, with a smooth windproof outer. There's nothing to bobble or "clump" like an ordinary fleece, and being windproof, they're beautifully warm.

Thank you for these suggestions.

I'll take a look at Superdry and Gap. I am normally put off by the big logos, but hopefully there'll be some without :)

I'm definitely looking for a sweatshirt I think, so the jacket isn't for me. But thank you for the suggestion!

I have a few jumpers, but they never seem to fit the bill. They're rather too itchy, too hot, too thin so you have to think about what they're going over, or have the wrong neckline for hat I want to wear for the rest of the day. I think this is why a sweatshirt appeals, as they tend to have high collars and are bulky enough to keep their shape even over other things.

Animal/fat face hoddies are what all the mum's here use on not quite coat days.
