I am in the very early stages of pregnancy. Had two miscarriages in the last two years so trying to play it cool. Because we've been trying for so long i have been putting off buying an investment (or for that matter, any kind of) coat because i was hoping it wouldn't fit me for long.

Is buying one now complete stupidity? I would get a small, am a size 10. When i had ds i had a neat bump till about 7months. Then ballooned! Baby would be due april-may time.

any advice gratefully received!

You will be able to wear it next yer, and the 'standing in the park' years even if it doesn't fit this year.

Hi,I can't really advise, but I am pg with dc3 and am intending to buy a didriksons parka(if I can find one). I am 14 weeks, and had planned on getting one this winter before i thought about getting pg.
I was not that big with my other dcs and even if bump is big I don't tend to get bigger in other areas and just won't be able to do it up, obviously. I will buy my usual size.
I didn't really buy much 'maternity' clothes with my other pregnancy except for jeans and tights, and I will buy some dresses to cover bump, but I wouldn't really buy things from mat ranges.
.....Obviously I'm sure I will now get massive and these words will come back to bite me! However I would still make do, I don't reply have the budget for a maternity wardrobe.

Unless you are really confident that it will still fit I wouldn't. I've just had dc3, it was the first pregnancy that I needed to wear actual maternity clothes. And the first time that I've not been back in normal clothes straight away. All my clothes (including expensive coat bought last winter) now don't fit Sad and I dread going out as I look awful.

Can you make do with anything cheaper over the winter and then get it in your size 10 next winter? You'll definitely need it for pushing the buggy and duck feeding days Smile

Congratulations btw!

Would this be a big outlay to you?

I wouldn't say that my shape stayed exactly the same after having three children but I certainly didn't change a dress size and for something as shapeless as a down coat fit post baby wouldn't have been an issue. I would buy as you'll be able to wear fastened for a while then unfastened in late stages of pregnancy when it will be nearly Spring anyway.

Hope all goes well with the baby.

Thanks everyone, think I'll go for it and wear it open with a scarf... It'll be an incentive to drop the weight after if the pregnancy goes to plan.

its my birthday soon so maybe i can get dh to treat me!!
