haven't found a decent skirt in years, until...!

Every time I try on any skirt it looks hideous.

I bought this on a whim from Fat Face expecting it to probably be the same (but I just loved the print so much). It's brilliant . Lovely material, not too long or short & it's a flattering shape (sits high on the waist).

I almost wish I hadn't discovered it as I now want to buy another one from them & they're not cheap...(to me anyway). If anyone out there has a simular issue with skirts just not looking right on them then try Fat Face! (Especially if you're an apple shape) Grin

Very nice. What the fabric? Is it knee length?

TheOrchardKeeper · 07/09/2013 15:44

Not 100% sure but it's a very soft, cotton like material. It's not flimsy though and doesn't blow about too much. It sits just above the knee Smile (the pattern isn't as bold in normal light which makes it actually look nicer in real life than it does on the website IMO).

Oooh I like that!

I find skirts really difficult to buy, thanks to a narrow waist, wideish hips, a bit of a tum and my lack of inches at 5 foot 2. That skirt looks like it might do the trick Smile

TheOrchardKeeper · 07/09/2013 16:02

Well it covers the belly button area (my 'problem' area, being an apple shape) and also sits on the top part of the hips so no unflattering bulges or anything Smile

Most skirts I try on make me look bigger than I am because they sit wrong on the tummy/hip area & aren't comfortable enough.

I can't believe I'm so happy about a skirt Hmm Grin

It's just so annoying because my legs are alright but my slight tummy makes it a PITA to find anything that fits right & have been trying to find a skirt that looks nice for ages.

I like that. I feel a trip to fatface. The fashionistas on here would hate my look but I like it so that's all that counts right?

TheOrchardKeeper · 07/09/2013 16:14

Yes it counts Smile

I'm so not 'good' at fashion but I like what I wear Grin though I do spend most of the time in jeans & tee shirts

I love fat face tops as some of them can be really flattering but had never tried the skirts til now.

Ihave two dresses from there that ive worn all summer. They are flattering comfortable to wear and lovely colours.

elfycat · 07/09/2013 16:18

I'm a pear but had a big ohhhhhh moment. I'd have to go and try it on and check it doesn't sit wrong on the 'shelf' that is my waist-hip shape.

DH and I have just started shopping more often in FF as those pieces of clothing that we do buy last really well. I'd rather spend more on a few good items than keep buying M&S things that don't last.

Google Nicola Quilter.

Amazingly beautiful skirts. Weird sizes (she explains on the site). I've no idea if they will suit your shape but it's worth looking

TheOrchardKeeper · 07/09/2013 16:22

Same don't' I have a lovely stripey maxi dress from there & a lovely tunic thingy.

They do last well too which makes it worth investing in a few bits you know you'll wear a lot Smile

p.s I have a fairly sizable hips/arse area & it just skims that bit as it sits on the top part of the hips then flares out so might do the job elfy Smile

Thanks antidote Smile

That's pretty!

Must admit I've never even been in Fat Face but just looked online and there are some nice bits

SirChenjin · 07/09/2013 17:40

Thanks so much for that Nicola Quilter link Antidote - that's exactly the kind of thing I wear. I also love the fact that the model is a normal shape and size Smile

itwillbebetter · 07/09/2013 20:19

Antidote- I love those Nicola Quilter skirts. How do you find the sizing? I'm at the top end of a 14 at the moment but hoping to get back pretty soon to my usual 12. Do you think a 'healthy' would fit? Sorry to hijack op Thanks

Eve · 07/09/2013 20:24

Thank you for Nicola Quilter, saw her skirts in Greenwich market after Olympics last year & loved them but short of time to try.

HandMini · 07/09/2013 20:28

Love Nicola Quilter. If I'm a 12 to I go for 10/12 or 12/14. Thanks Antidote and OP

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2013 20:31

I like a couple of those Nicola Q skirts, but the styling on the website is hideous - all nasty tights and horrible boots.

TheOrchardKeeper · 07/09/2013 20:33

I sort of thought the same Remus'

I love them to look at but don't think I could pull many of them off Grin

SirChenjin · 07/09/2013 20:40

Nasty tights and horrible boots? Shock I love those tights and boots Grin

Antidote · 07/09/2013 23:09

Sorry, sorry. Posted and ran.

I tend to go for the larger end of her sizes because I like them to sit on my hips. So when I was skinny I went for a 10/12 and more recently (pre pregnancy anyway) I was going more for the 12/14 size. I tend to be a 14 on the bottom for trousers, 12 for most skirts.

She models the clothes herself, but I agree the website is a bit challenging!

I've been avoiding looking over the summer as I always want a nnew skirt. I might see if she does coats this winter. ?..

Antidote · 07/09/2013 23:13

Damn it, now I want the London eye one. Grrr

WildThongsHeartString · 08/09/2013 00:17

Hmm a skirt called 'heartstrings'

Would be rude not to! Grin

SirChenjin · 08/09/2013 10:10

I don't get that WildThong?! Confused

TheOrchardKeeper · 08/09/2013 10:59

Isn't it because of your MN name?
