you were going for drinks at v. smart hotel followed by a meal at a trendy but casual restaurant?

Neither of which I have been to before so not sure what is the norm there.

I would normally wear jeans and a nice top going out locally but think jeans may be too casual for this. But don't want to look too "mumsy".

KTeePee · 20/06/2006 12:55

a nice skirt and top from monsoon and some funky jewellery

nailpolish · 20/06/2006 12:57

not linen trousers

will crease durng drinks at hotel and then you will arrive at the restaurant all crushed and waistband stretched

KTeePee · 20/06/2006 12:58

trews????

Apart from jeans and winter trousers only have linen trousers anyway. How would black linen trousers with a cool top do? (Could never do a halter neck due to having brown arms, white back and pink neck where I got sunburnt recently!)

Ok had a very quick look around the shops this afternoon (only locally so limited in choice).

I am thinking maybe white or at least pale coloured jeans/trousers and saw a few tops in Monsoon and Next.

I am only considering the white jeans because I will be child free for the evening itself and when getting ready btw, they will probably get worn rarely!

Haven't worn anything like that for years so hope it's not considered terribly chavvy or old fashioned (or muttony)....

White jeans are one of this years 'must haves' so go for you there :)

Cod · 20/06/2006 20:20

i love white trousers
white trousers an d a blue gren top?

GDG · 20/06/2006 20:23

Personally, I would still wear smart jeans with nice shoes and top.
If it was hot weather I'd wear a skirt but as it's crapola, I'd go with the jeans.

OK will go trying on stuff over the next few days....

Late update, but I went for white jeans and a brown halter-neck type top (not a true halterneck as it had a back to it iyswim). The lovely ladies at my local Boots sorted me out with a fake tan to camoflage my multicoloured skin. And I had a little caramel coloured shrug for wearing over.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions!
