Arrgh, I am being ridiculously picky

I need a black vest top. Not just any black vest top, I need a decent quality jersey top (maybe in a fine rib?), with a very u-shaped neck and straps that are neither strappy nor too thick (to show off the fabulous statement necklace I intend to wear.)

Anyone got any ideas? I've seen quite a nice one at American Apparel but the last time I went in the Cov Garden one I didn't quite get it...the prices were high for what felt like a cheapy shop! Is AA decent quality?

This is the American Apparel one. The straps are a shade too thick though. Shoot me now

Hi, I've had several things from American Apparel and most things wear well and wash well. I've had my things several years! Pricey, I agree. I still like their basics though Smile

River Island are good for basic vests...I'm not as fussy as you though Grin

I have almost exactly the same brief for buying vests! H&M have come up trumps recently, as did Primark this spring (although their straps might be a tiny bit thick for you)

All have washed very well and I tumble them even if it says not to, no shrinkage.

Have a look in the underwear section of M&S online - they have a specific Vests & Camisoles subsection. Most styles come in black. I'm especially impressed by the modal blend ribbed camisole. It's so soft a d comfortable and especially flattering. Have been wearing both the white and black versions all summer.

I buy vest tops from gap as I don't like too thin straps and these are the perfect length on me

Brilliant, thanks for the suggestions, I'm on a mission now! Will report back with findings. Smile

How about this. I think it is the same style as one I got in navy a few months ago and it is lovely.

Casmama · 06/09/2013 07:20

this might be better.

MairzyDoats · 06/09/2013 08:41

Great minds Casmama, I very nearly ordered the second Oasis one last night. I've got the day off so I'm on a recce to a big M&S today. Fermin was right, there are a few decent looking vests in their underwear range and if nothing there works I'm going to order that one.

If anyone is looking for a good-quality vest style top, I did originally get this one from Monsoon - it's not quite what I'm looking for but I may even keep it just because it's so nice.
