Dear god - I've just decluttered my wardrobe!

Inspired by some of the other threads on here, I decluttered my wardrobe and chest of drawers using three criteria...

  • Does it fit me NOW?
No thinking I'll slim into it, or keep it just in case I put on weight again!
  • Have I worn it in the last 6 months to a year?
With allowances for "event" clothes like posh frocks and seasonal clothes like winter jumpers & thermals, plus "memory" clothes like concert t-shirts, but these memories are now in one drawer!
  • Does it suit me/do I like it?
All the jumpers I've kept because xxx gave it to me and so I have to keep it because they might get offended even if they've never seen me in it but I'll never wear it.

The result? 10 carrier bags of clothes to either the fabric recycling, the Salvation Army drop point, or the charity shop - and they've all gone today!

I can see what's in my wardrobe and drawers, I know it fits me, and I'd be happy to wear it subject to ironing it

Dear heavens but it feels good! And I've resolved to do a one in, one out for my casual clothes - I still need to build up my work wear so I've set a mental limit of 4 new tops before I have to swap stuff out IYSWIM.

I love decluttering!!!

Well done you!

it's a fantastic feeling isn't it?

I'm looking forward to another swoop through my and the DC wardrobes when we change over our seasonal clothes.

I know what I'm missing from my wardrobe already - couple of nice work shirts and a pair of boots. Oh & a winter coat - my Calvin Klein, brought in 1998 has finally died!

I got rid of many large bin bags earlier in the year. Hows the rest of your home looking Wink (we have a lovely decluttering thread in Good Housekeeping)

BeCool · 05/09/2013 16:24

oops - bin bags of clothes of course!!

God. I so need to do this. You've inspired me. I'm currently dieting and jogging and terrified to throw out anything!

The rest isn't too bad.

We've been thinking about moving (3-400 miles away!) so we've been decluttering in respect of that.

Just need to start ebaying stuff from DS as a baby (so travel system etc); but can't work up the energy! Wink

I've done this as well yesterday, although I wasn't so strict on throwing things away (although I did create 2 black bags), but I've promised myself I'll wear everything left and if it's not right it's going, today I threw away another t shirt and some wedges, slightly worried I may end up with no clothes but there's a long way to go before that's an issue!
