Marks and Spencer pink coat - what a disappointment

I have just been to check out the much-hyped M and S pink coat - according to fashion editors everywhere the "must buy" for this season - and I couldn't be more disappointed. Apart from the colour which is gorgeous (if you like pink) the fabric is rubbish (a mix of various unnatural fibres) but worse are the giant press stud fastenings which the designer has made no attempt to disguise - you could never wear the coat open, which I often like to do. I shall be spending my £85 on something else. Shame, because it looked so nice in the photos,

Which one is it? I've seen threads about this, but no link!

sophiedaal · 04/09/2013 15:17

I wonder if there's been a difference between the press samples and the actual production run - especially if they've upped the order in light of the press seizing on it?

LillianGish · 04/09/2013 15:20

this one

That is disappointing. It looks very Alfred Hitchcock/Tippi Hedren.

sinclair · 04/09/2013 16:18

Interesting. I gave up on this as it still wasn't in my local (massive) M&S a couple of weeks ago so ran out and bought the neon yellow Topshop coat that I was also considering.

I think M&S have over-hyped this collection - yes some clear improvements but they have to have stock in at the right time or there is no point.

I want them to get it right cos when you get something good it is usually great, however still waiting to be convinced this season...

LeoandBoosmum · 04/09/2013 16:56

I think it's hideous, the colour too...and totally impractical. I think, esp with the poor fabric, it would look like a rag within a few weeks. A coat that made me think Tippi Hedren in the birds is this one although it is dearer, probably because it is 80% wool:

Also, in mustard or black (gutted as I don't suit any of those colours!)

I've found this with M&S time and time again. You see something in a photo and it looks good. See it on the hanger, and it still looks promising. Touch the fabric and YUCK.

nomorecrumbs · 04/09/2013 17:14

M&S have probably just bought off half of the fashion editors as part of their marketing plan

Screwfox · 04/09/2013 18:24

i CANNOT see hwat it is going to go with.
Will look really odd with winter things

Screwfox · 04/09/2013 18:26

LeoandBoosmum · 04/09/2013 18:43

Screw, Reminds me a bit of this (which I love but it's so expensive!)

HRHwheezing · 04/09/2013 18:45

Cheers, my duster coat arrived today
I love it.

Screwfox · 04/09/2013 18:47

yup but double breasted rules it out for me...

sinclair · 04/09/2013 18:51

yes Screwfox I got that Topshop one in the neon - it is horrid fabric but I couldn't resist the colour - no idea what it will go with...I had to take it off the model tho they only had size 8 left in.

I didnt see the teal when I was in, it might be a more sensible colour and the patchy fabric would be less noticeable too.

buttercrumble · 04/09/2013 18:56

My dd has just bought the duster coat , it looks fabulous but she loves vintage style. Smile

carlywurly · 04/09/2013 19:12

I went to look at lunch and it is a peculiar fabric. Had already ordered it in the lighter colour so will see once it arrives. Thought the price was a bit too good to be true Confused

oh no, does it look a bit cheap on?>

LillianGish · 04/09/2013 19:50

Emporer's new clothes. It's already sold out on the website - presumably on the basis of all those previews. I bet there will be a lot going back though when customers realise the Emporer has no clothes on!

Was never tempted by it.
Dusty pink was never my friend.

That Topshop one is gorgeous! The colour wouldn't do me any favours I don't think though. Also 'fluffy boyfriend' is a lovely name for a coat Smile
