Selling a designer wedding dress online

Hi, just wondered if anyone might know the best place to sell a designer one of a kind wedding dress. Don't really think eBay or Gumtree would be the right place and wondered if anyone knew of a specialist website or even of a physical store that sold such things.

Dress was designed by an amazing woman, well known, who is commissioned often for television, film and theatre costumes. Originally it cost £7k so I guess I wouldn't want to let it go for too little.

Any info at all would be welcome. Thank you!

What about some of the wedding sites do they have a for sale section?

Sorry to say, the market for second-hand wedding dresses is very limited. If it's a one of a kind then that is quite difficult given that most people will want to try on before buying - which would be uncomfortable if they came to look and then said they didn't want it.

There are some designers that sell well second-hand (Jenny Packham, Alan Hannah, Ian Stuart etc) but generally only the popular current season styles and even then they go for about half the retail price. If you paid £7k for your dress, how much are you expecting to get for it?

In my experience (I used to sell wedding dresses), brides want a new dress and it's hard to sell ex-samples and already worn dresses. You could try sellmyweddingdress.co.uk - have a look on there for the sort of prices people are asking. I think there's a fee for using the site but not sure what it is.

You could also try a dress agency or search for a shop that sells for you on commission - maybe something like this?

ASOS have a 'market place' for 2nd hand clothing.

and Etsy?
I have a friend who has a great little business selling vintage clothing via these routes.

Thank you everyone, will try all of those suggestions.

I desperately wanted to buy my wedding dress second hand, couldn't justify the new price but wanted that dress.
Ended up having to have it new but I think there are people out there who will buy it, but sell it quick is my advice.
