Would you wear these ankle boots with a dress?

I've been looking for some high wedge shoes or ankle boots to wear with dresses this autumn and came across these ankle boots from Clarks.

I've never worn ankle boots with a dress before but I like the look. Would these work?

I think they look great but are more of a shoe boot than what I think of as an ankle boot ,?

Are they? Would they go with a dress? Not a short skater style, something below the knee.

Personally i dont think any ankle boots with a below the knee dress would work. I think they look good with thick tights and above the knee dress. below the knee and you you could look frumpy. Sorry!

I thought they might go with this tube style dress but I'll take the frumpy warning .

I might go back to searching for high wedge shoes instead. I gave up on normal high heel shoes years ago because I find them really uncomfortable to walk in but wedges and boots are ok.

Dress doesn't have to be thigh length but definitely above knee. That dress is nice but wouldn't do anything for me as I'm 5ft 4" and the length just doesn't suit me, but you'd need a fairly high heel to pull it off

Totally fine by me, but I don't get this obsession with short dresses. I haven't worn an above the knee dress since I was about 19 and that's 25 years ago.

I don't understand maxi dresses either.

I think they would look great with that dress. A short dress and boots is a bit 80s The longer dress is very in atm I like it a lot

I like the dress and would wear with ankle boots certainly. I am tall, and love midi dresses.

Hmm some contrasting opinions now. I guess I will just have to try them together and see how they look. I'm quite tall soI think the dress will suit me ok.

I think it would work too, although leg shape comes into it too.

Short skirts and heels are a bit too much when you are tall.

They would look absolutely fine together. Ankle boots with midi skirts are both stylish & cool right now. I have worn this look for the last couple of years, however my ankle boots come up slightly higher than those (ASOS Aggie boots). With regard to tights etc.....I go bare legged with them early autumn & spring. Through winter I wear black or coloured opaques.

Google Laura Bailey for lots of inspiration. She is the poster girl for the midi-dress/ankle boots look IMO. Also Isabel Marant's collections are worth a look for more ideas (although she also favours minis and boots).

I love ankle boots with skirts, whether a pencil skirt to mid calf or any above the knee skirt, but I suspect (would have to try them to confirm) that those particular boots may cut off at an unflattering point, only just above the ankle. Just looked at some Laura Bailey pics and she does this combo brilliantly as Ujayi says, but with shorter boots she seems to add socks to peep over...maybe for the reason I said? I think maybe a pair that come up a little higher would be better? As I say, could be fine but maybe try a few different pairs to see what suits you best?

Ooh, just googled and at those are very nice sweetiehere are the brown ones. They come a bit higher up and I think would look very cool with skirts, not sure height or body shape makes a difference as long as you are happy with how your legs look in a skirt.

I'm not terribly keen on the first ankle boots linked (although think the second linked by Sleep would work well). I think that dress and ankle boots would look great (I hope so anyway, I wear the combo for work sometimes).

I hadn't even thought about tights MrsCampbellBlack. My legs have quite a nice colour from the good summer weather so wouldn't look too ghastly until the weather turns colder.

I haven't looked at over the knee boots either. I just saw these boots, thought they're nice and wondered what I could wear them with.

The reason I like those ones in particular is because they don't come up too high. I have skinny, bony ankles so anything too high or wide looks a bit buckety. Also they're quite smart, I would mostly wear them to work.

I googled Laura Bailey but couldn't see any pics of her in dress and ankle boots. Any particular sites I can find her on? I like the sound of her style.

Those boots should actually show off your ankles rather than cutting straight across them which is better. The problem that sometime happens with ankle boots and midi dresses is both the boots and dress cut your legs off at a 'thicker' part which can be what looks frumpy but those boots look like they'd actually show the ankle.
