so im in my 40's and going grey, long, very thick hair. Hoping to colour it myself but should i

  1. try and match my natural hair colour, go lighter or darker?? ( i tan well, not the typical pale skin type)
  2. What brand would you recommend. have only tried nice and easy and 2 packets just about covered it.
  3. foam or lotion?

Hi ! We sound very similar colouring ! I used to go to The hairdresser - but it just got too expensive ! Now I use Schwarzkopf colour mask in 665 light golden brown - I do roots for ten mins then do the rest - leaving my ends till absolute last min - as long hair and this is driest part ! So overall only on for 20 mins - not the recommended 40 - but this way my natural red still comes through but the grey disappears !! Best of luck with it !! :-)

Oh me too. when I could afford it I had foils at the hairdressers. A chestnut, a very ginger and a deep red and they put every other layer as my own hair so the roots didn't grow out so fast. it worked, looked fab etc but was expensive.
now I'm using nice and easy mahogany semipermanent. I leave it on longer than should but wash it loads the first week and it fades to my old colour after a few weeks.

oh and yes two packs for long hair.

Hi Wookieswife, only just seen your message but last night used nice and easy natural lightest golden brown 114a. Can seen much change in my natural colour but a least the grey has gone. might try Schwarzkopf next time. left it on for 50 mins

bonzo, you should try the permanent nice and easy. It lasts 6 to 8 weeks

my friend is a natural redhead, but quite grey at the roots, and she always colours with henna. It looks great and covers the grey, and lasts a long time.

:-) good luck !

BonzoDooDah · 05/09/2013 21:22

mummaemma I meant after a couple of weeks it fades to a more natural hinges colour like my old natural colour.
