can anyone identify this dress?? (maybe the person who was forced to hide in the soft furnishings of laura ashley earlier this evening...)

this is such a long shot...but i have witnessed the power of S&B in action before and thought it was worth a try!

i saw a woman earlier this evening in a lovely summery dress - knee length, with a tie back, sleeveless, really bright vibrant red with a smallish print which involved some blue (possibly a bird) - i trailed her round laura ashley trying not to stare and waiting for a chance to compliment her but it never came as she was always too close to lots of other people and i was too shy Blush

it was knee length and she wasn't a teenager, am off to check out laura ashley summer stuff online, but would be so pleased if anyone can identify this for me - TIA

eBay is your friend in this situation -I can't link but just searched for red bird dress and there's a George one similar to your description.

thanks so much for looking awaywego! i've tried ebay and found (several) of that george one - it's not it Sad!

it seemed to me to be a better quality material than just cotton - one of those dresses that just hangs really nicely. i've been on the house of fraser website too - it's throwing up loads of lovely dresses, but not the one. it was a really bright red, but not quite coral, just a really vibrant orangey red - and the pattern was not just of blue birds, it could have been a white/black sort of pattern and then there were random blue birds - and overall the pattern wasn't enormous.

have tried looking at polyvore - i'm just going to have to hope this woman goes shopping again at laura ashley soon and i'll be sure to confront her!

type the description in to google and then search images rather than results, you never know it might find it

Ahh shame you haven't found it-the oasis one is nice-I'd keep a saved search in eBay-I bet it will appear at somepoint!

Sounds quite like Boden to me. I'd have a look at the summer sale section of their website (clearance).

ladies! thank you all so much!! i have looked at all of these, thank you so much for taking the trouble to reply - the oasis one is closest in terms of style but sadly, not it Sad

i have obviously clocked in my brain somewhere that bird print is 'in' - and funnily enough mrspink it reminded me of a joules dress i have (where the bird is just random, the rest is flowers) - and i think there was a background print of flowery stuff, with the odd blue bird thrown in. the colours in the oasis one are spot on, but there were no sleeves at all and the belt/sash was at the back, made of the same material. oh and when i say she wasn't a teenager, i just mean the dress was at/below the knee, which probably rules out a lot of shops.

don't think it's boden mumsnut - i would have recognised it! it wasn't jersey or cotton either i don't think, it hung better than that.

thank you so much though everyone who has turned their thoughts to this. it could be a dress this woman's had for years, but i was hopeful with the birds 'n all that it might be something she'd picked up this season...

and thanks for the tips on googling and saving an ebay search - you've all been really helpful. would love it if one of you said "oh i've got that dress!" but will persevere and keep you posted if i find it!

Sounds like a Henry Holland print either his own line or the range her does for Debenhams.

Here is one but he has other bird prints.

And here too.

Here is a Primark one and a New Look one here.

mignonette · 31/08/2013 23:44

Or this?

rubybricks · 01/09/2013 00:25

thank you so much mignonette but it isn't any of those either Sad i have a notion it's more expensive than some of those dresses, am kicking myself now that i didn't approach the woman...

i am going to make it my business to find the bloody dress though so i can prove how accurately i have described it!

thanks again all
