Party dress for 12 year old dd

We are going to a fairly smart wedding soon and dd has nothing suitable to wear.

Where should I look? Is Monsoon still ok for this age?

BHS Occassion wear very popular at DD1s recent leavers dance.

Monsoon was a bit bridesmaidy when we looked there. Debenhams similar, Ted Baker did have some nice stuff but DD didnt think they were cool enough.

We found something online from New Look for DDs 12 and 10..

Debenhams usually have nice party stuff.

Very difficult, DD had a monsoon dress at 10, which I just got away with. Fortunately she was a bridesmaid at the next.

DD13/14 is easy she's a standard ladies 12 and has a nice, pricy Coast dress, but 12 is very hard.

Miss Selfridge go down to adult 6 which fits DD2 if not cut too womanly a shape. Dotty P's do some small stuff.

Red or Dead have teen prom dresses sometimes.

Next have some nice dresses. River Island have a children's and teen range too.

I haven't bought her any adult clothes yet, she seems to fit an age 12-13 in most places. She's starting to get a figure though so I suppose she might fit an 8..?

Yes forgot about Zara! We usually do well there for everyday clothes.

Have you tried the likes of Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins & River Island? They all have dresses that go down to sixe 6, some even to size 4.

Or how about this one from New Look's teen selection?

The perfect dress for DD2(now12) No point as we've married everyone off and she won't, normally wear a dress. Her party outfit is a black play suit.

Sorry should have checked stock, but our little DP has an ever changing selection of dresses. Not many 6's, but if your DD can wear an 8 you may get lucky.

DD2 has a couple of Newlook size 8 tops and she's pretty small.

Well that was hard work this morning and we came home sans dress!

Started in Debenhams which looked promising. Dd quite liked this:

but the top bit was plain and it was a bit gappy round the arm holes showing her bra a bit.

Lovely shape on her but again a bit gappy under the arms and she wasn't sure about the bird print.

So then tried Next - had nothing in her size. BHS - nothing she liked. Monsoon - all too bridesmaid-y and didn't have the purple one she'd seen online.

By then we were knackered and couldn't face any more so came home!

The hunt continues!

Johnnie B has some lovely dresses. Pretty and a little more grown up without being 'slutty'. I find that my 8 year old has to have to wear aged 10 sometimes and it's hard to find something suitable - but this range is great. And they're things that she wants to wear.
