Do you think where you shop says something about what type of person you are?

I had never considered this before really. I tend to just buy clothes I like. Although, having said that I do get 'into' certain shops if they have a range of clothes I like and buy loads and then sometimes go off then a different season.

Anyway like I said I never really considered this until a friend asked where a top of mine was from. When I said Boden she said 'Ah, should have known, you are a boden type of person?'

What exactly did she mean by that and should I be flattered/offended?

Offended, I think.

Then again, a friend once told me that I was a, 'Crushed velvet kind of person' which is probably even worse than Boden!

Why? You need to explain!!!

I need to see if any of my other current faves are any better thought of!

It's just boden, really - due to Samantha Cameron wearing their clothes there has been a "boden backlash". Google it and you'll see. Some of their stuff is great and decent quality, other things are crap. Keep wearing your top if you like it - I have some stuff from them that I think suits me and isn't hotchpotch and I wear it without a second thought.

Oh and also lands end is apparently thought of as frumpy and middle-aged American but I think they make great business casual stuff that helps me look smart but not sexy or trendy in the workplace which in turn gets me taken seriously. And their quality is excellent.

If you like something, wear it. There is no fashion police!

Boden women definitely are of a type. It's not "bad", just a bit samey IMO (I live in a Boden town...).

Hobbs women at work are very easy to spot. They look ridiculously over keen if they are under 35!

I'm probably seen as a Fat Face woman but that's ok by me as I like their clothes and their image.

I think Boden/Waitrose are seen as naice petit bourgeois aspiring middle class shopper.

It's all a bit silly really.

I wear Boden because it fits, it's easy to buy and return and they do good discounts.

I'm also an Aldi Queen so my proly/naice shopping choices must surely balance each other out.

I get my clothes from tesco or sainsburys because I have no money not because of the type of person .

just because you buy something from somewhere doesn't mean that you are the "typical" X shop type woman. In the last month I have bought a skirt and top from Sainsbury's and a dress from Boden so am I a frazzled mum with no time and very little budget or a comfortably well off middle class lady who lunches?

I buy clothes because I like them and I don't care where they come! Anyone who seriously turns their noses up at you because you buy from Boden/Sainsbury/Primark/Prada knows nothing about dressing themselves and just end up looking silly and sour.

If you google around and read a bit about Johnny Boden...well imagine being the female equivalent. Or worse, aspiring to be the female equivalent. That's why it's an insult.

However that's more the Mn view and less the general public view I think most people wouldn't care really and it's likely she was just talking about the clothes.

I buy from lots of places but mainly Oasis and Warehouse, some Coast/Karen Millen for special occasions. Do buy in New Look too....not sure what that all makes me...

The three things I've bought have been in Topshop, M&S and Whistles. I suspect that means I'm middle class and middle aged but desperately trying to cling onto my youth - or something!

Johnnie B doesn't like women, particularly those who have children to look sexy. So for someone to say that you are 'boden type' well to me it implies sex-less.

Saying that, I have a few bits of boden - their knitwear is generally good.

I shop in many places but so much depends on your life stage, so if a sahm with small children - you'll shop in different places to someone working fulltime in a very professional job.

Karen Millen is a big WAG or it used to be. I never look in there any more but used to wear their stuff when I worked

I am a charity shop type of person.
I like stuff that isn't necessarily what everyone else is wearing,I like a bargain,and I don't really 'do' smart.

No. Many people shop where they can afford rather than where they would like to shop/

OP, I used to think it did.

But being older and (hopefully!) wiser now, I realise some of my best buys have been from places I might have once turned my nose up at.

The brands are manipulating us with marketing ploys, trying to sell us a lifestyle. They want us to buy stuff by making us think that by buying that item we will be 'better'.

I'm not saying I haven't done it, I have; but when I've reflected on my choices I can see I've sometimes been conned and feel cross with myself. Branding and marketing are very powerful. Huge amounts of money are spent defining brands / target customers etc.

But I am still me, whether I wear M&S Classics or Cos*.

Apologies if this post doesn't make sense, I am rambling a bit.

(*And those were just examples btw - I don't happen to own either at the moment.)
