HOC Winters & good 'outfit-put-togetherers' HELP! I need an outfit for a wedding this Saturday!!!

I have a wedding coming up this Saturday. I have put off buying an outfit as firstly I have been doing the 5:2 diet and wasnt sure what size I would be, and secondly, I had my colours done recently and wanted to wait until I had that done.

I am a SAHM to two young dcs so I am reluctant to buy a dress that I will wear this once and then never wear again. I am thinking possibly a skirt, fancy top and then a cool necklace. I figure a skirt and top would be more wearable again with different things.

I have a shopping day coming up on Thursday. Dh has booked the day off to mind the kids, I am going to the Trafford centre (I must be mad). So I will at least have a good chunk of time to try stuff on.

What I need is ideas for tops and jewellery/accessories. I'm rubbish with details like that. Maybe even a nice belt?

I would really rather but stuff that I can somehow use again in my daily life, or at least on the odd evening out.

There isn't really a strict budget but I wouldn't want to spend more than £100/£150 on the dress and top.

I'm a Jewel Winter and have spent far too much time browsing QueenCadbury's autumn/winter Pinterest boards and am now wondering if I can get away with grey and black to a summer wedding?!!

Any help appreciated. I would like to attempt some colour but am still finding my way with the whole colours thing.

Haha the lace and red skirt thing made me sound a bit tatty. Don't worry it is a very nice cream silk top with a tiny bit of scalloped black lace around the edge of the sleeve and neckline. As I said I have never worn red before anyway so the chances of actually buying that skirt are slim. But as I'm trying to be braver with colour I am def up for trying it on.

It is a very casual wedding, not even suits for the groom and best man so I think a dressy vest would be fine. I wouldn't be able to wear the colours on the Blake Lively outfit it was more an idea of the style look I was after rather than long sleeved dresses.

Lots of dresses that would be suitable for weddings are either strappy or strapless so I think a posh cami style top could work. Depends what I find really.

kezztrel I have looked at ASOS but never quite know where to start with them. I have never successfully bought something from there. I always think something looks great and is a good price then it arrives and is nothing like on tje model or is horrible fabric.

Actually I did buy a pair of jeans earlier this year which are lovely but I now know are not my colour!!

Ps I agree Remus the bright pinks and reds on Pinterest look great, it's a brave look though!

Jeans aren't near your face, so I doubt it really matters what colour they are tbh. Personally I'm not fond of coloured jeans (other than khaki) but if you wear the jeans with a top which suits you, surely they'd be okay?

I've just filled two bin bags of stuff for the charity shop. My biggest mistakes have all been red! But that's because red across my boobs scares me - I can see that the colour suits me but I feel like it's screaming the arrival of my norks to everybody. A red skirt however, I'm absolutely fine with. :)

I'm a bit scared of coloured jeans too, but these are a very pale, soft coral. I am still wearing them just with a plain white T and I turn the bottoms of the jeans up.

I know what you mean about red, I am not particularly large chested person but I feel like red is a but wanton! I think being a Winter my best reds are probably the slightly deeper cherry reds which might be a bit easier to tone down than a super bright red.
