company logo shirts (for employees) would you wear one?

Our boss has proposed the idea that we wear company logoed shirts/polo shirts (and possibly t-shirts for the girls).
I'm all for the idea (as long as they are reasonable) cos it

a. means less shopping and I hate shopping
b. Saves me money and we are very strapped for cash atm
c. means less thinking about what to wear and what goes with what and all that palava.

OTH one of the lads at work is very anti cos he likes to wear his own stuff and feels that a logoed shirt is repressive nad restrictive esp in an office enviroment where we are not external customer facing. He also points out that if we wear these shirts then so should senior management (good point).

So what does everyone else think?

I think it's a good idea because of the reasons you state. However does seem a bit poncey if you're not interacting with customers. Who are the logoed shirts meant to be telling who you all are?

Can see that they might foster team spirit, raise morale within staff groups etc as well as being good for the reasons you gave, but also see that they're not essential in non-customer facing environment.

Management should also pitch in, although if they have to wear suits at the moment and staff are more casual, I don't think they should dress down to staff level - company tie, embroidered-pocket shirt etc might be more appropriate.

I work in a lab in a hospital and do sometimes envy the nurses in their tunics / dresses / scrubs... such a timesaver!

thats the other thing MrsB while the male senior management tend to wear suits the women dont, and they dont tend to dress much more smartly than some of the rest of us. the dress code varies enormously across different depts depending on the work they do.

i have to wear a uniform, it does save alot of time, but are you in an office? it seems strange

hmm, alligator, maybe that's the underlying problem they're trying to address - ditch the varied interpretations of dress code between groups and unify the whole company?

I think it'll go down like a lead balloon with most people tbh. I really want to be around to see the reactions

i imagine it would stop alot of bitchy comments if you work with alot of girls. One girl i used to work with wore really short skirts and see through things, it got on everyones nerves (except the blokes of course).

thats a good point SE Hadnt thought of that one (but then my dept is all blokes bar me).

maybe they need to do it to stop them all looking at you!

We have trendy printed tops and hoody's at work but we have to pay £7 for the hoody's as they cost £25 for the compony to buy in.

I am self employed and this year have bought logoed and named tops and a fleece jacket. It's been brilliant - on the days I work I don't have to think about my clothes, I have got business from being out and about as people ask me what I do, I have paid for the clothing out of untaxed income...absolutely no downside whatsoever.

I don't understand why you would need/want them in an office environment though if you don't meet customers. That seems like a waste of company money.

not "you" personally, I meant the company/manager.

I agree its a waste of money 3b for us office workers but then who am I to complain.

Like the idea of te trendy tops and hoodie but cant see them going for that mores the pity. Prefer not to have to pay for them tho.
