Has anyone ever waterproofed a cotton coat at home?

I have found a coat I would like for the impending autumnal weather but it is cotton and not even shower resistant.

Anyone know how I could apply something to it to make it water resistant?

I have looked into waxing it but would like a more convenient method. Not sure if the sprays like NikWax are suitable for standard cotton IYSWIM.

You can't spray wax into a cotton coat . It needs to be waxed cotton to start with . Spray wax is very messy sticky stuff and difficult to work with unless you know what you are doing. You can spray cotton with a waterproof spray from nikwax but it will only be showerproof at best . You will likey get wet. Showerproof coats are treated at source hence why you have to be careful how you wash them as it can wash off .
