have you ever bought anything after seeing it recommended on a blog?

and does it change your opinion/'rating' of that blogger if it's a dud?

I was thinking about this the other day. I wonder if these blogs that do lots of lots of links to things they haven't seen or bought themselves are shooting themselves in the foot. or do readers not mind if they buy an item and think it's rubbish quality?

the first fashion blog I ever read was DMBL40, and I bought a cotton striped jumper from H&M after her recommendation. it was AWFUL. misshapen after one wash, I had to throw it away.

that was over a year ago now. more recently I have bought a pair of sunglasses and some sandals, both of which I saw on What I Bought Today. I love them both LOADS so probably take more notice of the blog and her recommendations.

I was stalking a whistles dress for months and just after I had bought it saw the same one on Liberty London Girl. although maybe that doesn't count as it wasn't her recommendation that led me to buy it.

i think that's it for me. what about you? I wonder how much we are influenced by the blogs we read to part with cold hard cash?

obv the fashion industry think we are, as they seem to give freebies and build relationships with those who put lots of time and effort into their blogs. which I think is great btw, if that's the way fashion/advertising is going. I do like honest reviews of items though rather than lots of sales chat!

I'm really cross because I bought the Whistles petal print maxi skirt, and now I'm seeing that print everywhere. I honestly thought I'd be the only person daft enough to like it! :)

I have the maxi skirt too Grin!! (but not the dress)

Hi foxy. Was it dmbl40 who recommended the Zara linen tees? Or was it on here? I bought one of those on someone's recommendations and it was lovely until it was washed!

Apart from that I haven't bought anything that's been directly recommended from a blog. I do love browsing them but don't find many very inspiring as they become same-y. I much prefer Pinterest. I do like WIT though but I'd like to see a blog that wears items in different ways rather than buying new stuff all the time.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2013 20:54

Yes, that's a very good point Queen C. I love magazine articles on, 'Ten ways to wear a grey t-shirt' etc. That would be a brilliant thing for bloggers to do.

Dexter - you really do love the print then!

dexter73 · 17/08/2013 20:58

I do! My dd made me try them on together for a laugh - not a good look. She said I could stand next to a hedge and nobody would ever see me!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2013 21:00

:) My dd has already nabbed my skirt to borrow. And, of course, looks loads better in it than I do. :(

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/08/2013 22:10

No, when I think about it I haven't although sometimes they have the nerve to buy something which I own! I follow DMBL40 but she's the opposite body shape to me although our styles are similar. She's also working with a greater budget than I am! School gate style is a bit more high street and she has bought things I already own a few times but I suppose I want aspirational reading, not something I can already own. I have picked up on different brands as someone else said although not specific items

Bexicles · 17/08/2013 22:30

I have bought skincare products after reading Lisa Eldridge's blog because I trust her judgement. Clothes wise I tend to get outfit ideas from blogs rather than buying a specific item. I like DMBL40, I think she looks fantastic.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/08/2013 23:18

Dexter Grin

DMBL40 never ever credits other blogs though - which is I think a tad annoying. Or perhaps she never reads them -who knows?

Karbea · 17/08/2013 23:28

I got a lot of things dmbl40 recommended last year, but this year I think our tastes have gone off in different directions, I just don't like her style anymore :(

There's a couple of youtubers that have encouraged me to buy beauty/hair products :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/08/2013 23:44

Yes, I think BumLady often steals ideas from elsewhere and then claims them as her own. I think she's nicked a few ideas from AllWornOut, Mrs CB.

I also hate it when she buys something I've already got (snakeprint M&S scarf for example) because then it looks as if I've copied her, when I haven't.

Must admit I've stopped looking at her so much though. She seems lovely, but all those baggy trousers and jumpsuits and drapey cardigans are really not v inspiring to me.
