£30 gift card to M&S - what to buy?

I turned 30 yesterday and was given a £30 gift card by a lovely relation of DH's. (I believe she is a loyal per una customer.) I'm generally a Gap/Boden/J Crew/Uniqlo shopper so don't venture into M&S much.

I went to M&S and wandered around looking for something to get. There's nothing I need and I'm 33 weeks pregnant at the moment, so I was hoping something would catch my eye to either wear now or in the autumn after DC2 arrives to make myself feel a bit more put-together as I eke out the last of my dull-as ditchwater maternity and breastfeeding wardrobe.

As it all seemed to be a sea of £100 jumpers with dogs on and navy and red polyester tunics I didn't stay long.

If you had £30 to spend at M&S, what would you buy?

Nightwear, walnut whips and Percy Pigs.

Pants and cake

libertychick · 16/08/2013 23:24

Food or put it towards a pair of leopard print slipper flats

AgentProvocateur · 16/08/2013 23:35

Wine

Twinklestein · 16/08/2013 23:46

Some red leather gloves, Roger & Gallet shower gel, & a coffee walnut cake.

MonsterBookOfTyRexs · 16/08/2013 23:48

Save it till Christmas and buy shortbread and choc biscuits :o

They do amazingly lovely Autograph tights about £10 per pair. Cotton and cashmere. Or merino. Lovely colours some years. Doesn't sound very exciting but they are one of the things I am continually most pleased with.

thecatfromjapan · 17/08/2013 00:00

I'd probably spend it in the Beauty department. Nuxe moisturiser, or Roger and Gallet Osmanthus fragrance. Or the M and S own-brand rose deodorant and bubble bath. Those last two cheered me up enormously when I was last in hospital.

Agree about the tights.

Shoes are often very good in M and S too.

If I had any other little bits of birthday money, I'd put them together with the vouchers and buy a cashmere something or other. They often have cashmere hoodies, which are lovely. Even if it stretched with the pregnancy, it would still be something you could wear at home, on cold winter evenings - making slouching around a bit more lovely.

And congratulations on your pregnancy. And what a nice relative.

I never err go in there but had to meet someone in there yesterday and whilst waiting spied a pair or lovely red limited collection shoes for 29.50

joanofarchitrave · 17/08/2013 00:03

A round of new pants for me, ds and dh. Their boys' underwear is nice IMO.

Food

MumnGran · 17/08/2013 00:28

Baby department ? .... bodysuits are excellent, Pretty muslins.

Or cheat and use the voucher for some Christmas bits (cards, decs .... or gifts for other people!) and use the saved cash in Gap Smile

AmberDextrous · 17/08/2013 00:32

Knickers

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/08/2013 00:38

Go to a big M&S - the Beauty range is really good.
Have a look online to give you ideas.
Not all lavender handsoap and talc now Wink

Treat yourself to something nice for long soaky baths before your lovely baby arrives Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/08/2013 00:40

Knickers oooh I say Shock

Never heard that sort of talk in MY local M&S

JellyBelly10 · 17/08/2013 00:43

I just did the same OP! Had a £25 M&S voucher and as am currently house-bound post knee injury and surgery I could only do it online. I bought a beautiful scarf to wear when the weather gets colder. I would never usually spend that much on a scarf but it didn't seem like spending real money!

rockybalboa · 17/08/2013 03:58

Pants and food. I had a similar issue with an M&S voucher recently. In fact in the end I spent it on glasses (as in the kind you drink out of).

Tinwe · 17/08/2013 04:36

Went in today to use their free loo and saw a nice scarf...

Mummyoftheyear · 17/08/2013 07:47

Kim Harris perfume. Or R&G Fig fragrance.

bunnymother · 17/08/2013 07:55

Another vote for the leather gloves (I also have red), the Formula range of day cream w SPF and then caramelised macadamia nuts (divine).

Xiaoxiong · 17/08/2013 10:16

Wow so many ideas - thanks all! I didn't even realise their beauty department was more than lavender talc and handsoap so will definitely check it out.

Also forgot how partial I am to M&S cheese crispy biscuits, I bet I could get a fair few for £30 Wink

They do Philip Kingsley hair stuff. I love it and often ask for the shampoo, conditioner and elasticiser. I'll spend loads on skincare but hate spending on my hair. They do a little set for about £15 that's got decent sized products in.

Spend the rest on the lush desserts!!
