How to dye just my roots with a foam dye?!!!

Okay so I've settled on a colour I'm happy with & a brand, a foam one - but my roots are now visable so I reckon given a few weeks I'll have to cave in & tackle the job of colouring my roots. I'm totally cack- handed at this, even with the normal liquid dyes, I just couldn't seem to cover my roots properly. I don't have many greys, probably one or two...

My natural colour is like an auburn colour & I dye it like a deep chocolate brown, so my roots stand out quite a bit next to my coloured hair. It's so easy just to shove the whole lot on but then it's like colouring all my hair again and that leads to colour build up & very very dark lengths which I don't want.

So how do I colour just my roots with a foam dye? Will it be 'easier?' Whats the best way to colour just the roots? Last time when I coloured my all hair it didn't foam up like it said in the instructions, but still came out nice enough!

Try to section hair, and spread along the root line.

You don't need to take the colour through each time, as that leads to build up and over darkening.
