I have always wanted a pair ever since I was tiny and am considering buying a pair now that my old ones are getting a bit past it.

Thoughts on these, please:

I prefer the blue ones to the black ones as they aren't so obviously flowery.

buttercrumble · 15/08/2013 15:11

The blue ones are lovely Smile

Skinheadmermaid · 15/08/2013 15:13

I really love the black/pink pair. I was considering getting some myself, i've worn dms since i was little but i've gone off them a bit seeing all these coltish teenage girls wearing cheap shiny knock offs with see through leggings and crop tops.
Confused

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 15:14

I love the black pair, I almost got those myself but went for black velvet ones instead Smile

enormouse · 15/08/2013 15:31

Do you mean the black velvet ones that are overprinted with a pattern or the plain ones, onelittlelady? I quite like those too. Wish I had the money to buy several pairs at once.

skinheadmermaid I'm the same, I stopped wearing them whilst they had their fashion moment.

Thanks for your opinions Smile
I think I prefer the blue ones too, not as over the top as the black/pink pair. The ones I wanted when I was little were the white ones with multicoloured flowers. Don't think I can get away with those at the age of 24.

Mine are the plain velvet ones enormouse I love them, they are so sturdy and comfortable

Skinheadmermaid · 15/08/2013 15:36

Haha enormouse i had white ones with flowers when i was little! I loved them. When i grew out of them i had a snakeskin and a bright yellow pair...that i wore with orange jeans. Hmm

enormouse · 15/08/2013 15:40

They sound lovely, do they have the tag at the back? Does the velvet wear/fade like suede does?

Oh and I like these too,

Funnily enough, I've just been out to do the school pickup, in my brand spanking new pair, which are these ones.

Not the question you asked, I know, but I just wanted to show off my new Docs.

I like the black pair you linked to best.
Whichever you choose, remember to get some plasters, as they take a bit of breaking in.

WandaDoff · 15/08/2013 15:45

I'm 33 by the way, & not only do I get away with them, I rock them.

Bloody hell dm's are dear now aren't they

I paid about £45 for mine back in nineteen coughty cough.

Still have them, ive never been able to part with them, although they rarely get worn these days.

TigerFeet · 15/08/2013 15:57

Mine are almost exactly the same as yours Wanda

I bought them in sole trader in Manchester at least 20 years ago... I don't rock them any more though, i just look like a tragic old hippy :(

WandaDoff · 15/08/2013 15:58

I have a pair that is older than my children Grin

IShallWearMidnight · 15/08/2013 15:58

look on amazon for DMs - I just bought DD a flowery fabric pair for £46.99 (v similar to the ones linked in the OP)

enormouse · 15/08/2013 15:59

Grin go ahead. I love Dr martens and those are fantastic.

Can't wait till DS (22 months) is old enough for his first pair, on a completely unrelated note!

I'm 42 and still wear them (and also rock them Grin) Don't give up on things you like because of daft things like age! I love those boots lverbut it's completely unfair that they don't make them big enough for me. I'd love a pair of dark purple velvet ones...

WandaDoff · 15/08/2013 16:02

are* Blush

Lara2 · 15/08/2013 16:03

I've got the black /pink ones so I'm obviously biased towards these! My lovely friends at work had a collection for my 50th birthday and bought them for me. Grin

Lara2 · 15/08/2013 16:05

Oh, forgot to say - the only pair of Docs I've never had to break in - so comfy!

enormouse · 15/08/2013 16:07

Oh my God they do DD size versions of my new ones.

This is going to end up getting expensive isn't it

Lanceolate · 15/08/2013 16:13

I love the ones they did in Liberty print. Still some online.

OneLittleLady · 15/08/2013 16:16

Mine are wearing like suede enormouse I think they are going to look even better as they age

AuntieMaggie · 15/08/2013 21:38

I want some but what do I wear them with?

enormouse · 16/08/2013 11:35

auntiemaggie pretty much everything you'd wear ankle boots with. Skinny jeans, leggings, short skirts/shorts with tights, maybe the odd dress. I also like them for dog walking and cold weather.

Thanks for all your advice I'm going to nip into Belfast next week and try on a few pairs so I can see how they look and then buy online. I've decided on the darker blue pair or the velvet ones.
