Is Kaliko a bit old fashioned? Like a dress but worried it'll look frumpy.

Found this dress online and it's reduced from £199 to £69 which appears to be a major factor in why I like it! I was thinking ahead to the Christmas season and imagining it with high heel black shoes and a black pashmina...
I'm just doubting myself a bit because although I think it looks lovely and could suit my shape (5' 7" and fairly slim size 10-12) and I love the colour and the beading, a bit of me is wondering why it's so reduced...presumably because not enough people liked it to buy it!!! What do you think? Here it is Kaliko Dress

I think you've made a good point in saying some things lasted years. It does seem a good place to buy quality classics. I've just got a deep pink wrap top from them. Wrap tops seem to have been around forever, but this one is a really good buy and was about £11!

Oh well I've ordered it now, I'll just send it back if I end up looking like a shapeless old frump in it! Grin
I actually like the fact that it's not fitted in the waist area as I have slim hips and a bit of an undefined waist (aka I'm more of an apple than a pear!) and I suit 20s style dresses but only like that shape if they are above the knee, so I'm hoping it will be. That purple one that was linked to is nice but I genuinely prefer the green one, maybe I'm just a bit of a frump at heart! Also because your bra straps would show through the purple on I'd feel the need to scour the earth looking for a suitable purple bra, which I can't be arsed to do as I always wear the same boring TRiumph bras in white!!! Actually I'm sounding more and more like an old woman who should be shopping in Alexon and Betty Barclay etc!! For the record I'm 45!

Jelly I have some work dresses from Alexon too Smile

Just for the record, I have a navy summer dress with a lacy top and scoured the shops for a good strapless bra- and found one, but I also wear a nude coloured bra under it and the straps are hardly visible.

I think you're right to order the aqua dress, the purple was a bit of a bad acid trip...

Chewbecca · 14/08/2013 19:20

I think it's nice, I bet the reasons it hasn't sold are:

  • £200 was too much
  • it is 100% nylon
  • dry clean only
Hope it looks nice!

I like it - I think it would be better 6 inches shorter though. I also think it would look better with silver grey than black.

OMG just had to report back that not only did John Lewis deliver my dress in break-neck speed but it is GORGEOUS!!!!!! It is so much better than I expected, doesn't look at all frumpy, it is exactly the length I love as it is about 3-4 inches above the knee, which you wouldn't guess at all from the picture!! LOVE IT!!!!!!! It's the green one in my original post by the way, just in case anyone was confused!! Can't wait til the Xmas season now!!
