With what kind of dress do you wear an underslip?

I'm wondering if I could do with some 'structure' under one of my frocks, and wondered if an underslip is what I need? Are these terribly old-fashioned? Does the modern woman still wear 'em?

Hm, marking place. I don't. But then sometimes my knickers show through my dress and I don't realize until I get home.

Yes, I wear one under anything that can be seen through. I am, however, pretty old.

I bought one to wear under a satiny dress as it felt a bit thin, worked a treat. It was quite nice from M&S (I think I'm quite modern)

CMOTDibbler · 13/08/2013 21:02

I wear them under jersey dresses and anything clingy to help them skim better

also any skirts that stick to your legs/tights will benefit from a slip

thenightsky · 13/08/2013 21:05

Anything that doesn't have its own lining. Debenhams do very slippy ones. I have one in black and one in nude.

Thanks ladies. Can anyone recommend something not too expensive? It's fir under a shift dress, and I'm quite short (5ft).

What do you mean by 'slippy' NightSky?

Is also a nice extra warm layer in the winter Blush

thenightsky · 13/08/2013 21:16

By 'slippy' I mean very smooth and silky but with enough weight to not ride up your legs. Whatever the fabric of the dress or skirt over it, it never ever sticks. The perfect 'slippy slip'.

I think I paid about £12 in Debehams for them. The waistbands are smooth at the front, but very slightly stretchy around the back.

Elsiequadrille · 13/08/2013 21:17

M & S would be the place to go, I'd have thought.

Chocolateteabag · 13/08/2013 22:09

I have a short slip from Primark and a longer one from M&S

I wear them under most dresses to help avoid cling and vpl. Also helps if you are wearing a wrap dress which suddenly unwraps itself (silk jersey does this to me occasionally)

NumptyNu · 14/08/2013 07:11

Thanks ladies! I will investigate.

I have a lovely nude one from Calvin Klein which has lasted years and years. I wear it with thin or staticky or clingy dresses. (Am not old :))

polyhymnia · 14/08/2013 09:52

I wear them under all dresses which are unlined.

Twinklestein · 14/08/2013 10:34

I wear them under chiffon dresses. If you get a light control slip you could neaten your figure into the bargain.

NumptyNu · 15/08/2013 18:50

Thankyou. Are the light control ones suitable for all-day use? ie not too uncomfy/tight?
