this dress

do you think the middle part would be quite flattering to a pudgy stomach, and would it look weird with ankle boots?

Nice dress. Not sure about ankle boots - personally I would only ever wear ankle boots with trousers, but depends on your age and legs. I think the dress would be flattering.

NigellasGuest · 13/08/2013 14:08

Yes I felt a bit dubious about ankle boots....

It's just that I do a lot of coming and going, and like to kick shoes on and off, so I often end up wearing silly looking things on my feet just for ease and speed. I thought if I had ankle boots with this it might aid me in my goal to look stylish on the go! The long boots the model is wearing would be a nightmare for me. (I'm talking about when the weather is grim, not for now).

I have that dress and wore it a couple of days ago. The fabric is nice and soft but quite thin - why I could wear it in summer. The belt should be a bit wider. Overall a good purchase, though a bit expensive. I don't know about ankle boots. It's over the knee for me, maybe if it's slightly longer on you it would go better.

aftermay · 13/08/2013 15:04

I meant above the knee.

I have a similar dress from there which I wore to a work event 3 months or so after I had DS2. It was very forgiving on the tummy and made me look as if I had a shape. Lovely dress.
I wouldn't wear it with ankle boots though.

OneLittleLady · 13/08/2013 15:11

I think it looks lovely and like it would be very flattering across the stomach area. It's the kind of thing I'd wear myself tbh. Like others have said, not sure about the ankle boots though

worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2013 15:14

Nice dress, would be flattering to anyone with a slightly flabby tummy. The only ankle boots it might work with are those black leather low cut ones with a heel, otherwise I think it needs black courts or black Duchess of Cambridge boots.

GlaikitFizzog · 13/08/2013 15:14

What kind of ankle boots? And would you be wearing opaques too?

vitaminC · 13/08/2013 15:18

Lovely dress. I had my eye on it, except I don't think the colour would suit me, unfortunately.

Unless you have very long legs, I would think ankle boots would make your legs look quite dumpy with a dress like that! Boots like the model is wearing would be better.

Possibly low boots / shoe boots with a heel would work...

NigellasGuest · 13/08/2013 15:37

yes I'd def be wearing opaques with any ankle boots Glaikit although it looks like ankle boots are a no-no.

Black courts are out for me as I think I would look frumpy although they would look nice on other people. I just want something to wear whilst I'm running around IYSWIM that isn't jeans & horrid top and will look ok with sturdy weatherproof footwear.

I was thinking for autumn & winter but as aftermay says it's thinner material than it looks, so maybe not.

What are Duchess of Cambridge boots? Are they an Actual Thing?

Apileofballyhoo · 13/08/2013 15:39

I don't think the boots the model has on look very nice with the dress anyway. Low ankle boots/high cut shoes might work better.

Twinklestein · 13/08/2013 18:13

I have several similar dresses, not from Phase Eight, & they're ultra comfortable, but they're not very warm. I notice this one has 3/4 length sleeves. I would suggest a wool or jumper dresses, I live in them in the winter now.

finlaysmum12 · 13/08/2013 18:24

I think it would be fine with opaques and ankle boots!

have a look at the "ankle boot" thread for some ideas.

IslaValargeone · 13/08/2013 18:27

I'm going against the grain here, but I would have thought the bow would draw attention to the very bit you want to hide.

GypsyFloss · 13/08/2013 18:31

I've got that dress for my graduation , in a teal green colour. I got it for a lot less than 79 quid though thanks to Tethersend.
I'm going to wear it with black or leopard print kitten heel ankle boots and black opaques.

NigellasGuest · 13/08/2013 18:45

so ankle boots are a Yes?

OP posts:
LostMarbles99 · 13/08/2013 18:49

I would wear that dress with ankle boots but I wear ankle boots with everything, dresses/skirt/skinnies in autumn and winter!

GypsyFloss · 13/08/2013 19:07

Yes, definitely :)
