What should I be wearing on my feet?

I'd be grateful for any advice you can give. I might be looking for the moon on a stick here.

I used to live in loose jeans, hoodies and trainers. I've upgraded to fitted, dark blue jeans which seem to go with everything (or I'm deluded - possible) and have started buying nicer every day tops, but when I try to wear them with shoes I come unstuck. I like flats, I know it's probably a fashion no no but I feel like a drunk newborn lamb on heels and I have enough to be getting on with without falling over. What sort of footwear can I wear with bootcut dark blue jeans and a variety of vaguely dressy tops? I'm 5'7 and a size 12-14 with most of my length being in my legs, size 5 feet.

I wear skinny or straight dark jeans and wear converse (slim ones), ballet shoes, flip flops/sandals or boots over top - the latter won't work with boot cut though. Boot cut need to be longer to wear with a heel (even a smallish one), I think! So you'd need 'heels' jeans and 'flats' jeans... Converse are fine with boot cut! As are flip flops.

Sorry... I think my suggestions were too casual. With dressy tops, and going out, you could try sparkly ballet shoes or mini wedges (open toed maybe) if the length of the jeans is ok!
