Where can I get a pair of classic buckle shoes for a boy?

I am sure in the 80s that little boys wore buckle shoes. I haven't seen them around anywhere for boys. Does anyone know where I can get a pair, something like this; www.startriteshoes.com/girls-shoes/sandals/tea-party-red-patent but a bit less girly.

Why don't they make them for boys anymore?

Why would they?

Why wouldn't they? In the 80s little boys wore these kind of shoes. I remember my brother having a brown pair and some of his little friends have pairs in blue.

Don't know but I'm interested. When I was a kid boys and girls both wore brown leather shoes with a buckle fastening. There wasn't 'boy's and 'girls' shoes. Just shoes. Another example of the power of marketing. Bah.

Couldn't get the link to work but I think I know the type you mean, like t- bar shoes? I call them Christopher Robin shoes, love them for boys too but seem to have fallen out of fashion. The only ones like that I could find for DS were these from clarks, but they're canvas rather than leather.

Sorry not sure how to do links from iPad!

highlandbird · 11/08/2013 20:05

Ooh your link worked now yes the type I was thinking of! Would love to know if anyone finds any unisex ones, they've obviously been pigeonholed for girls now, rather than just being children's shoes!!

What about these

Could be dyed brown or navy if red is not right. £15!

I've had my two year old son in a pair of Startrite t bar shoes all summer. He looks lovely in them! So much nicer than bulky shoes with velcro or trainers. The style is called 'Jo' and I bought them in the navy blue. I bought mine from Trotters in Chiswick but this particular style is stocked by lots of independent shoe shops so you should be able to get them fairly easily.

Kickers seem to do one that could be unisex (see photo) and link; www.kcmode.com/kickers-kick-t-bar-infants---black-leather-kids-shoes-22756-p.asp

To be honest, I think they have now been marketed as being for girls whereas actually there isn't anything to stop them from being worn by boys. I guess it is just a mentality thing that now because they are marketed as being girls style, mums of boys stopped buying them. It is a shame really as girls already have so much choice and boys have so little, would be nice if they could be reintroduced as being boys shoes again.
