what would I need to buy/do?

Is there anywhere who knows? My hair is light brown (no hair dye currently) with grey bits in it.

I have pink hair :)

I did bleach it first (I have ombre hair into pink at the bottom).

It will still go pink if you leave it light brown, but bleach makes it brighter and helps it 'stick'.

I used to use directions, but now I just get the schwarzkopf live ultra brights, as they are easier to get hold of, and I have found that my bathroom is less of a mess after I wash my hair.

There are lots of tutorials on you tube. :)

OK - I'm not too bothered about it lasting. I was thinking a temporary colour to start with as haven't dyed it for years. Bit worried I'll look a bit old lady with a blue rinse!

Use a cleansing shampoo first, strip all the conditioner out of your hair, otherwise it doesn't take well at all.

Good luck :)

OK thanks. Where does one go to buy pink hair dye please?

Online.

It might stick longer than you'd like it to though.

If you're going to do it, go the whole hog and go to a hairdressers. Bleach it white blonde (maybe have it cut short) then dye pink over it. A la fearne cotton

dontputaringonit · 10/08/2013 20:54

(I don't think it would look that good unless starting with a very light blonde base)

wilkisons, boots, superdrug...

I had pink hair a while ago I used a pre lightener and left it on ages as my hair went a bit yellow orange I used an ash toner over the top to make it a more 'white' colour then added a bubblegum pink dye to it.

I loved it but in all honesty it had gone to a not so nice salmon pink colour after 2-3 washes i had to re dye it every couple if weeks which isn't very good for your hair.

google online for pink hair dye and you'll find loads

littlemissnormal · 10/08/2013 21:05

I had pink hair, really really loved it. Unfortunately work weren't so keen!

The Live stuff on top of bleach works best but be prepared to keep dying it if you want it bright!

cece · 10/08/2013 21:16

Ummm - it all seems a bit hard work. Was just thinking a wash in thing to give my grey bits a bit of pink colour during the school holidays. I'm not sure my Head would be very pleased if I rocked up for first day of term with pink hair!

I really do not want to bleach it as it's taken me ages to grow out the hair dye that I had in it before. Plus as part of that I had it cut short into a crop and it's taken two years to get back to shoulder length...

what about if you have a few pink hair extensions put in over the summer holidays

you can get as many or as few as you like put in and then just remove them at the end of the holidays.

that's what I do now it took me ages to get my hair the perfect colour so whenever I want a change i get some coloured extension highlights you can change colour as often as you like without ruining your hair

littlemissnormal · 10/08/2013 21:30

I had to have mine bleach washed to remove all of the pink, so if you don't mind going blonde.......

dontputaringonit · 10/08/2013 21:30

Ok well try the colour bug. That would be perfect

cece · 10/08/2013 22:21

Now I remember why I got off the hair dyeing treadmill! LOL

Might look into extensions...
