Ideas needed from hair experts about disaster cut

4yo DD was playing hairdressers with her friend, now do I cut all the back off (very ragged sides) or put it what is left of the back in a ponytail and use clips/ gel or something to pull the sides in to "look like" they are in the ponytail as well, and then cut the back when the sides grow down a bit? (you should be able to see the photos on my profile)

First of all, your daughter is gorgeous!

My daughter had very similar hair to your daughters when she was that age. (She is now a teenager with dreadlocks, say no more!)

My daughter was scalped by her big brother playing hairdressers when they were little and the good news is that their hair grows very quickly.

Because her hair is fine, I would leave it and use clips or bobbles if you really want to. But that is for your benefit because you want her to look 'nice'. She won't care one jot about her hair, so don't let it upset you, it could have been a whole lot worse!

I would go for an impish little crop and start growing it all again.

I think it will look mullet-y if you attempt to keep the length at the back.

I think the ponytail option will take a lot of faffing and probably look like a cover-up.

It doesn't look like your little one is bothered so if it was one of my daughters I would go for the short haircut option.

It's only a matter of time before this happens in my house.

Oh, she's not bothered NOW, but she really would be if she lost all the back. She keeps checking that her "curls" are still there, sad though they are now! Thanks for the advice.

I would cut it up to a bob and get her to wear an alice band.
